Nice, very nice.
However, even though you can see two of the Janet planes the shot looks like it was taken on a Sunday. (No buses in regular parking area) Buses only run Mon-fri out to test site area. (Some do run from Vegas to Mercury on the weekend but not in the numbers they do during the week.)
Second comment. Some feel that the Area 51 base has cut back operations and has moved to Utah. Partly because of the publicity, and because the long air strip is no longer needed.

Yea, I'm sure the black ops have moved. When janet flight left the airport they flew out of the exec. terminal area. But a seperate building.
Those working at the other parts of the test site would catch buses throughout Vegas. and head to the site. A couple of buses left vegas and headed to area 51.
But I think it's neat that these photos are available.

I met Knapp in Vegas back when they were getting ready to expand the test range to get freedom ridge. He asked a Air force Commander about Area 51/Groom lake existence, this yahoo in uniform, with photos of the base all around him, said that the air force did not have a base at groom lake. Now this is a true statement. The Airforce does Not have an air base at groom lake. It and the security forces that protect it are run by private contractors.
Anyway KLAS has always been on the fore front of digging into stuff at the nevada test site, area 51 and a bunch of other 'Secret bases in and around Vegas"
That makes two of us that are fan club members
After thought addition.
There are three major employers in Vegas.
Tourism includes gambling hotels etc.
construction, building hotels homes etc.
Can't talk about it. Government and private contractors involved with Nellis AFB, Nevada test site. Tonapah test range. Indian Springs AFB Wackenhut security services. Plus a few others.

So someone should talk with one of these contractors or an old employee. There is always someone who will speak. The trick is finding the right one.

Good point. The problem is most of the workers at NTS, Yucca Mountain Project.
Groom lake and the contractors are run through a security check like no other, depending on the level of clearence required. Red badges (UC) at NTS YMP are the lowest security levels (Other than kitchen crews who are not allowed to leave the cafaterias) sign a secrecy agreement that is punishable by ten years in prison for revealing anything that they see or hear on those sites. If they have a green badge (Q) security they can be imprisoned for ten years or more for even saying that they work at those facilities. Wearing your badge in a public place is also punishable. Some of the badges are attached/encased with a dosimeter due to the worker being required to cross or enter warm zones or hot zones to reach other areas of the sites. So there is a deterent to having people talking. Those that work at Groom Lake can recieve life sentences. The government doesn't mind guys like Bob Lazar coming out every now and then talking about UFO's It is easy to discredit him and since he has no proof, he keeps the rumor mill running and people from finding the truth about what goes on at Groom Lake.

Yeah, the world's longest runway is no longer needed. After all, why do you need a runway when you can HOVER ?
Interestingly, the huge runway has yellow crosses covering it. These usually signify that the runway is no longer USED, never mind required.

I am sure stillcrazy would have a much better idea than I would, but I bet there was some nifty testing going on at this site back before it became so well known. I don't know what type of craft they have there, or where the craft came from, but I am sure it is something interesting...
My dad worked for an aerospace company in Southern California for 30+ years he started out in the late 50's/early 60's calibrating flight insturments for different aircraft. At one point he was calibrating altimeters for a new secret aircraft, he didn't know what at the time.
He calibrated these altimeters for higher than 120,000 foot. The average passanger plane travels at 30,000-35,000 feet. He was also calibrating Air Speed Indicators to go up far higher than any mach speed he had seen before. He knew it was some new aircraft that travelled very fast and very high. As years went by he was promoted up and got security clearances to be able to see what he had been working on. It was the SR-71 Blackbird.
He was very proud to have worked on the plane, and found out a lot about it before it was made public. Back about 1972 or so he took me to a hobby store to pick up a plastic model airplane(I loved those things), as I searched around I found a model of and SR-71 and picked it up and showed it to my dad. I had no idea what it was, I just knew it looked cool. He was amused. Here he had been working on a top secret aircraft for years, not being able to tell anyone...Along comes his son and picks up a model of said aircraft...He had no idea that anyone else knew what the plane looked like, but I guess somewhere along the line a few picture leaked out and the model plane company ran with it...

Morning FB.
Your mention of the model made me laugh. Remembering old times The same thing happened with the stealth Bomber. Skunk Works thought they had this one sealed in the can and here comes Aurora model company with an almost exact copy of the plane.
The SR-71 has an operational ceiling of 90,000 feet. So calibrating for 120.000 would not be that unusual. The only commercial plane currently made that has an altitude higher than 35-40,000 feet is the Lear Jet with a maximum ceiling 50,000.

The Yellow crosses are on 32L This runway was used for speed test on landing and take off. But I agree that this strip is no longer used. the janet flights use 32R has noted by the heavy black tire marked area at each end. What I found interesting is that if you look closely you can see where certain areas of the photo have been blacked out. There is an area just above the two janet jets. The black borders on the taxi way are really interesting cause they seemed to be drawn in. the semi-circles at the crossing are not correct with each other, and look drawn. There is one X that is dark blue just below the crossover. These are new compared to other photo's out there.

Stillcrazy-There are ways though to gather enough information about a group of people and determine which person would be a good candidate to give intel.

I agree. but the problem is that if you find a person who has knowledge, there is always the question of proof. It also comes down to what your willing to spend on that intel. Most folks don't have the bankroll to buy that kind of intel or run a operation of that nature.
