Pictured: Shocking moment drunk driver ploughs into group of cyclists
A cyclist was killed and 10 others were injured yesterday when a car ploughed into a bike race in Mexico.

The terrified sportsmen were hurled high into the air as a 28-year-old driver, apparently drunk and asleep at the wheel, crashed into the race near the US-Mexico border.


A photograph taken by a city official shows cyclists and equipment being thrown skywards like rag dolls by the collision.

Police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez said Juan Campos was charged with killing Alejandro Alvarez, 37, of Monterrey.

Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34km race on Sunday along a highway between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.

Aye carramba - The guy still on his bike on the left hand side looks like he's about the only one to avoid any contact with the driver. I'm actually suprised that there's not more than 1 dead from the looks of that picture.

That is a very striking photo, how only 1 person died is remarkable. That guy should be disqualified from driving for life, heavily fined and jailed for a murder sentence and the attempted murder of the other 10 he injured.

We just lost a 24 year old male here in down last night, he was hit upon his bicycle in town by a young woman in her mid sized car, he had no helmet upon his head and it was over when his head impacted the windshield, is was so very tragic, and his parents at this moment are away abroad in Italy upon vacation…

Only one death? Wow, now that's a miracle. I feel for that guy's family, though.

How tragic is that, and his poor family being away and receiving such devaestating news...You know, down here it's usually the opposite..The bikers have their run, then go to the bars..They have to wear a wristband from the bar to show they were drinking..Last year after a run, 3 bikers were killed, and 4 seriously injured, and a few in the car injured also...But I have never seen a picture like this, and I hope I never see another one...

Oh that poor boy and his family, but even with a helmet, what other closure do you have...My husband and I used to always ride, he a harley and I had a honda...I wiped out one day, was thrown over the windshield, landed on asphalt...Picked myself up, hobbled to my bike and the next day I sold it...I felt forewarned to get rid of it...

I hope so too , he doesn't deserve his freedom anymore !!
