Children will learn by downloading information directly into their brains within 30 years, the head of Britain's top private schools organisation predicted today.

Chris Parry, the new chief executive of the Independent Schools Council, said "Matrix-style" technology would render traditional lessons obsolete.

He told the Times Educational Supplement: "It's a very short route from wireless technology to actually getting the electrical connections in your brain to absorb that knowledge."

Pupils could seen have lessons, and even foreign languages, downloaded directly into their brains, just like in the Matrix

Mr Parry, a former Rear Admiral, spent three years determining the future strategic context for the military in a senior role at the Ministry of Defence.

He is now preparing the ISC's 1,300 private schools, which collectively teach half a million children, for a high-tech future.

He told the TES that the Keanu Reeves thriller may not look like science fiction in 30 years' time.

"Within 30 years, sitting down and learning something will be a thing of the past," Mr Parry said.

"I think people will be able to directly access, Matrix-style, all the vocabulary you need for a foreign language, leaving you just to clear up the grammar."

In the film, The Matrix, characters could have all manner of information, skills and languages downloaded directly into their brains in a matter of seconds.

Although that's a really cool idea to think about, I doubt it's going to happen in the next thirty years and I really doubt that it'll come from some aliens. That being said, I think it's a very real possibility in the future to learn from some kind of VR interface. Currently we nowhere close to that kind of merger of biology and technology, but it's a cool futuretech thought.

they will be using it more recently for the military, so new missions and orders can be downloaded into the soldier's brains simultaneously, but then again, think about it if everyone had all they need to know downloaded onto a chip, what then? who would get the jobs?

The innovators. Just because you have knowledge doesn't mean you know what to do with it.

His bull? But you've just seen an independant scientific article verify that it is very possible and that it may even happen within the next 30 years! Rael talked about this in 1973. You don't see a connection? That his information isn't bull, it's actually real scientific fact verified by the ET's that told him this info? It's only now that we are discovering that these things are possible....

i KNOW this will happen eventually but im not to sure within 30 years
also how will it be downloaded? a plug into the back of ur head? [like the matrix] or some kind of wireless connectivity with the brain

We know that scientists have taugh a rat how to make its way through a maze, and then when they inject the 'memory' from that rat into another rat who has never been in the maze, that rat can always find its way out first go. It has learnt what the other knew.

I don't know how they did this, how do you just 'inject' memories into a rat? I shall have to google it, but I know the experiment has been done.

I looked and couldn't find anything about this. I'd love to see something that indicates that memories can be injected into a brain, even that of a rat.

We'd have to think about things like, how much memory does an average brain have. How would your brain sort through this massive library of knowledge. How will this affect your personality and how you relate to the world. Can this be used to control another persons brain. Can you implant one person's personality into another person like he were a robot. Would we truly discover our souls through the discovery of the brains make-up.

That could lead to catastrophic results. Imagine what would happen if leaders of terrorist organisations get their hands on the knowledge of militairy strategies, weapons of mass destruction, counter terrorism, guerrilla tactics, and many more techniques to take over the world - just to name an example. The wrong information could be gathered by the wrong people. And what if some people reversed the technique and use it to brainwash or read someones mind? A single virus could brain kill an entire school. The fact that everyone could have the same knowledge, is almost parallel to communism. Intelligence will be looked down upon even more then it happens allready. Everyone could get the same job, have the same income and know the same as everybody else. It reminds me of 'the Borg'.
