SPENCER, Iowa. - A northwest Iowa man accused of leaving two children in his car, while he picked wild asparagus along a busy highway south of Spencer, has been charged with child endangerment. The Clay County sheriff's office says the man was arrested Wednesday night after a passer-by spotted the children.

Authorities say the man's 5-year-old niece was outside the car crying when the passer-by stopped to help. The man's 2-year-old son was asleep in the back seat.

Chief Deputy Duane Bates said the man was in a ditch about a half mile from the car. He didn't have any wild asparagus when the deptuty found him.

After searching his vehicle, Bates says deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The man, who also was charged with drug possession, was released from the county jail, after posting bond.

Why couldn't he buy the asparagus in the market?

I hope when he gets out jail, I hope he never does that again.

Asparagus has always been a problem, not only will it make you do things like this but it will also drive you to rape and pillage at will, they call it 'Asparagus Madness'.

Asparagus is a gateway drug.

Idiot.

I blame the parents.

They should have known that stoned, impulsive wild asparagus harvesting is one of the long list of reasons not to leave your kids with their under-financed uncle.

If they had just sprung for daycare this would have been avoided entirely...

Actually, I think anyone who thinks pot is a gateway drug is a effing idiot.

People have their own fu**ing MINDS to make their own fu**ing CHOICES. You can not blame it on a drug, any substance or a person/peer pressure (unless someone physically forces you to take the drug, but unless you are an idiot, I don't think anyone can force you take smoke pot).

By the logic of "gateway drug", one must also think that booze is a gateway substance. Of course, I know people whio smoke pot and hate booze. And I also know people who smoke pot and despise all other drugs.

And there is no actual physical evidence that pot is addicting. I suppose it would depend on the person, and how easily and pitifully they give into cravings. But it's all a mental thing. People who claim to have addictions to pot make me sick. They have no control.

Addictions in general make me sick. People have to go above their body, become masters of their mind. If they give into addictions, it is weakness. Ultimately, you make your choices, and no one or outside influence should sway you, as long as you make the right decision.

(I also think humans have a weird, sick obsession with eating meat, something like an addiction, but I won't get into it now)
