Has anyone else been watching the competition? Many of my friends have shunned it just because “our” team didn’t make it rolleyes.gif , but I think it is shaping up to be a good tournament. I have watched all the opening matches and in my opinion Holland look like the team to beat.

Yeah I agree its a very good tournament so far,

Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Germany have made an excellent start. It is a shame no teams from United Kingdom have made it. That Midfielder for Holland was amazing. And the Spanish front two were very good.

Ahh yes the embarrassing typo, was late when I started the topic blush.gif . Spain do look promising yes, always rated Torres, and Villas hat trick was impressive, but Spain have a tendency to under achieve in any competition. Looking forward to the Portugal V Czech game today should be a good one!

They lost to Holland 3-0 (do or die for em now) but it's hard to keep World Cup Champions down for too long.

I’m not sure rebel, they have a hard group to get out off, if they lose to Romania on the 13`Th I think its game over, oh and the 13`Th is a Friday…

am backing Spain, its about time they won something with the skill they have, not just that, half the Liverpool squad play for them, not forgetting the best striker in the world El Nino Torres,

Holland wont be far away, van Basten has them playing great, Kuyt played well the other night, shame Babel is injured,

Its difficult to get enthusiastic about the competition since England are out, but i agree with a few here, i am going to back spain, or Holland

I think both countries have historically unachieved, yet have both started this competition strong, although wouldn't be the first time! lol

Interestingly enough, i was just on the FIFA website checking up the world rankings, and for the last 15 years England have mostly been outside the world top 10, where as Spain have mostly been a top five team, and Holland mostly within top 10!

An interesting statistic i thought!

and croatia beat german again grin2.gif

An interesting statistic yes, but I think the ratings are about right for England, if not too generous! The national team just cannot seem to play well enough together they just don’t gel like other international teams. Perhaps there is not enough national pride in the team, it’s a pity.
On a plus side though my girlfriend’s national team; Croatia beat the Germans, no mean feat! And are now group B leaders and have secured them selves a place in the quarterfinals, perhaps they could be the surprise winners this year, like Greece did four years ago…?

Hrvatska ekipa strasan!!

Quite right! its just every time a big footy tournament comes around, the England Squad talk it up like we are actual contenders, as do the papers,
when the reality is like comparing tennis players, for example Tim Henman, or Murray (world no 10'sh) can never be compared to Nadal or Federer, nobody would talk up henman or Murray in the same manner England talk themselves up!

Perhaps the English people should come to terms that we are infact rubbish compared to the competition, just like we accept we are rubbish at tennis!

Azzurri (Italy) drew 1-1 against Romania with a questionable off-side given against Azzurri that could have won em the game...

Anyone know if they can still qualify from here?

If Italy beat France in there last group game there is a chance (slim) that they can make the quarterfinals. thumbsup.gif

I watched the game, as it held more importance then the Dutch game, because Holland was already through. Italy played well and seemed solid throughout, got one lucky goal through a rebound from a free kick, but defiantly deserve to win the game. Spain next for them that should be fun!
REBEL

Italy will be without their mid-fielders Pirlo & Gattuso (second bookings) against France when they play Spain, but the Italians are known to excel under pressure...err hope this is one of them times lol!

The Turks gave our team a hard time last night. Every match they played they somehow turned the match to their advantage on the end. Had their heads together better. World Cup is ours though. Unless England plays, then it might get rough. Hehe, love you baby. X X X

What a preformance from Russia last night!
eden grange
So we have just four teams left now; Germany Spain, Russia and Turkey, I doubt many people would have expected two of the teams in the semis! Spain deserved to go through against Italy. The Italians never seemed to want to break forward and attack, played far to defensive, the more exciting team made it through!

Yeah, I caught the highlights this morning eden. They piss me right off when they do that. My old football coach (Aussie Rules) always hammered it into our heads, 'attack is the best form of defense'.

Bringing the game to extra-time & 'penalty shoot-out' didn't help their cause either...they have a bad track record in that dept.

Germany is headed to the final tonight!!! Bye bye Turkey ☺
