'Unicorn' born in captivity:

A DEER with a single horn in the centre of its head has been born in an Italian nature reserve, sparking talk of unicorns.

Ehh, it's a deer. It's not a horse, nor any horse species. It's interesting, but predictable. Thanks, though, for posting.

Didn't the unicorns of medieval legends look similar to deer? Deer like that young buck might have been the source of these legends. If you look closely at the Unicorn Tapestries, you can see that the unicorn had two hooves (like deer) instead of one hoof per leg (like horses).

Either way, it's an interesting story. The buck is cute. All he needs is to be albino, have a little goat beard and a lion's tale, and that little guy will look just like the unicorns of medieval paintings. I wanna ride him! tongue.gif

This reminded me a picture of some Wiccans with a "unicorn"... it was a goat (I believe) who, when young, had his horn cut off and relocated in the middle of his head. Apparently it would grow like a regular horn. I believe the picture was in one of the versions of "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. I thought it was disgusting, these people playing God like that. Not natural at all sad.gif

At least this one was just a strange anomoly and not people's doings.

(For the life of me I can not find a picture of it on the internet)

they say single horned deer are common sort of but deer with said horn in the middle are very rare indeed.

Ahh, it's rather cute. There's no need for everyone to be cynical about everything all the time, is there?

Id never heard of a single horned deer. Looks quite odd (ok ok in a "cute" kind of way)
