lets see if i have the point right then. The point is that you are right and I am wrong doesn't depend on if I prove you wrong. Gee you sound like a gf.

I stated that the heart and other organs in the body do not slow down. The link I gave says that maybe the metabolism of the body slows down.

The point wasn't the science of sleep, the point was that sleep is a waste of time and a stupid design. God could have easily have made us not need sleep but he didn't, he decided that we should spend roughly one third of our life lying there unconscience.

This is an Intelligent Design thread...you don't actually need proof here.

For the record you said "The body works just as hard asleep as it does awake" which isn't true...many organs, muscles, etc. do not work as hard, different parts of the brain become less used during sleep, etc.

OK different parts of the brain become less used but other parts in crease in use. The part that controls walking seeing and what ever other voluntary and in-voluntary movements that are not needed for use as we sleep. But the parts that increase in use are the parts needed for dreaming.

As for sleep being a waste of time I agree. I also think that when Adam and Eve were in the garden they didn't have to sleep. I think that sleep was the punishment for eating the fruit. Because the only difference between sleep and death is you will wake up in the morning.

Not a bad excuse but a pretty bad assumption considering it isn't in the Bible.

No in the bible God told Adam he would die that day if he ate the fruit.

I do believe in heaven and hell. I was talking about the physical body. But if your going to push me let me say that one day the dead will wake up too. Just not in the morning as far as I know.

Okay, and this thread has taken a serious turn into WTFland.

Sleep is inefficient, and it doesn't matter what organs slow down or decrease activity. The point is that we need it. If someone is deprived of sleep, their brain starts to shut down sooner than if they are deprived of water. It's a necessity, we need it to live, as does every other creature. And as far as I know, none of the animals ate from the Tree of Knowledge, so why do they sleep as well?

The point (and yes I am looking at you, daniel) is that you still have not brought any kind of evidence to support Intelligent Design, and you won't, because there is none save the Bible and pseudo science that has been manipulated and twisted in a biased attempt of the ends justifying the means.

The human body has enough stupid traits included that I can't see an all knowing deity choosing that design as his final draft. The planet was not designed with humans in mind, that part is so obvious it is next to impossible to deny it. The galaxy, the universe, we are not in the center of it, as a matter of fact, under the circumstances, we are so fragile and weak that we are lucky to be alive. Had a God designed life, would he have made us the least efficient, weakest, and most toxic to the planet that was supposedly created just for us?

This isn't the final draft. This is a middle of the road design. The final draft comes at the end of time.

No one has brought any evidence of non intelligent design.

A perfect god wouldn't need a draft but just always have the perfect final product.

lol so the final design of the human body comes at the end times...when we will no longer need our bodies anyways?

garbage. according to that story, Everything bad that happens is due to them. makes no sense. just an easy way out of any question.
you cant blame the story of adam and eve for 'god' being a terrible engineer (if they did make us).
i think with ALL the flaws with humans, the earth, and universe, its PROOF that an all-powerful, all-seeing, all-knowing and Perfect being/entity Did Not Create Us.

*edit* and if they did, they should be slapped in the face, fired, and disapointed with themselves.

i know, because some 'entity' decided to create us in a way, where we become less productive, because we now have to spend 1/3 of our lives (according to cadetak) sleeping, and doing nothing.
why couldnt we be more like superman? just getting energy and strength from Our yellow sun. it would then basically last us the hours of darkness, and then the sun comes up again, and we start feeling the 'power'.
but nooooo. that wasnt allowed. this all-powerful being thought that didnt seem right.

not quite.
and not quite as often as we do, when he does. he regenerates pretty fast outside during the day. where as, if we didnt get much sleep, and then went outside to work, we'd be pretty tired.

I think that the Teleological argument, or rather, the argument of design is not really a good proof of God. We at least can conceive of more efficient ways that our body can run, and if we could do that certainly an omnipotent/omniscient/benevolent being could do that.

very true. that this all-knowing/powerful entity cant construct a very good human being, for being this 'perfect' entity. seeing as We can figure out all the problems, and how we Could Have turned out alot better. were correcting the "creator" basically. so is that good or bad?
hmm. man is smarter than god.....interesting. although, it would make sense since we created it.

Not perfect but better and more efficient. If the creator makes imperfect things what does that tell us? If I can design and create better things then the creator then what does that say about the creator?

hmmm, that tells me that the creator created something better than you originally had thought, because anything you created would be because of your inherent ability that you were originally created with.

lol after I re-read that, it made me a little dizzy. laugh.gif

lazy, or just incompetent. seeing as how, our little, feeble human minds...are capable of more than a fricken god??? that we can create things that are Better than the so-called, Creator of the Universe? ok, somethings wrong here.
that doesnt add up in my opinion
ShaunZero
QUOTE (danielost @ Jun 15 2008, 06:31 PM) *
actually the man's point also makes it a good point for intelligent design. IE God made the Earth where it would barely support human life.

That makes absolutely no sense. How does the fact that the majority of the universe is to dangerous for humans to live in support intelligent design? What would be the point of creating a universe that can barely support life?
ShaunZero
QUOTE (danielost @ Jun 15 2008, 09:13 PM) *
He took an uninhabitable planet and made it habitable. By the way the Earth is too hot for liquid water except for one small detail.

He didn't take an uninhabitable planet and then make it habitable, he made that planet uninhabitable(For what reason?) and made it habitable. According to you.

and the earth as well. he places us on a world that seems to keep shifting. and has things like: tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, lightening, rain/flooding, mud slides and droughts. ALL these natural disasters, which seem to Always claim the lives of innocent people.
(and if someone says 'its gods way of punishing us' or 'only the bad people die because god is angrywith them' i very well may snap)

It seems that if there is an atomosphere it has weather. and if not it may have volcanios.
An Urban Legend
The point is, it would be pretty stupid for God to create a universe larger than what we humans can observe or visit and then just create life on earth. That would imply that the rest of the universe is simply junk and useless; it's just there for show! You can't live there anyway! God just made it to where only earth can harbor life, everything else is pointless to boot. rolleyes.gif

i know i havent read much about it at all, but i dont recall hearing anything about adam and eve putting up with volcanic erruptions, earthquakes or hurricanes. however, i could be mistaken.
