Hello-
I haven't been on the forums for a while because I was visiting the Escalante National Monument in Utah.
Fantastic place. I was there for a combination of Photography, Nature, Biology, Geology, Backpacking, Archeology, and of course Paleontology.
Spent a few weeks hiking the Canyons... It's truly an Amazing place. Fantastic Geology/Scenery, great backpacking, awesome photography, and interesting Paleontology.(Dinosaur tracks, fossils) Not to mention the several Anasazi and Pueblo archaeological sites around: Cliff dwellings, Pictographs, and artifacts.
Could spend years hiking the place.
Anyway- I was hiking through Coyote Gulf, and noticed this up on the Sandstone.

It seems to be an eagle of sorts. Too bad the photos didn't come out right- It looked much clearer in real life.
Feel not afraid to zoom in on the pics- They are high quality PNGS.

Anyway, what do you say. A Painting or geological obscurity. Several pictographs have been found in the area, but I have not heard of anything of this magnitude.

It proposes some serious problems for Anasazi Indians... It is a good 100-200 feet up on the Sandstone for starters.

Cheers,

I thought this was the huge bird. What do you think?

There's the legend of the Piasa Bird.
Wiki

The legend comes from a giant painting or carving on a mountain over the Mississippi River. I think it was in Illinois where it was originally found.

Woa, you are right.
Didn't even see that bird! I believe there was a very, very faint possible bird around the bend too, but no pictures of that.

Seems to be from the wrong side of the continent though. Wiki page specifies the legend is mainly in eastern tribes.
Possible though.

Such an awesome adventure for you sqlserver.
Great photography, yes, sure does resemble a bird.
I recall being in the cliff dwellers living pits, such a profoundness, being in the native territory.

wow, i could see Absolutely Nothing in that pic, until it was highlighted, and even then going back to the pic again, it looks
nothing really. this better not be one of those starchy pics again. or w/e his name is.

All I can see is little boxes with a red x in them
Left Field
Unless it looked much clearer in person, I don't think I'd be looking at that and making any type of image out of it.

Agreed. Perhaps Starchy has a cousin.
