Years ago, when I was just a small child, I played little league baseball for a league held by my school. In one game I grounded out to first, and when I reached the base, the first baseman pushed me down. I was angry enough that I got up and punched him. But my memory of the incident isn't from my own point of view. It's like I had an out of body experience and watched myself do it from a distance with no control over my actions. Not to mention I got ejected from the game, then I see my dad in the crowd slapping his palm to his forehead.

Pretty strange; anyone else have a similar experience like that?

I have, I think it's a pretty common thing. I remember when I was about 3 or 4, my Mum took me swimming for the first time. I remember a swimming teacher and my Mum being with me, but I remember it as if I was watching from a mezzainine level. Weird.

Actually, yes....also in a little league baseball game. I was up to bat and the pitcher beaned me a good one. I really only remember this from an angle from down the first base line. But that's because my mom videotaped it and I've seen the video a bunch of times. I don't even remember getting hit, just seeing the video. It's almost like it happened to a stranger.

Its interesting stuff, though. I wonder what causes your experiences, for instance? Unless you watched it on video tape like me, I can't figure it out. Maybe you've replayed it in your head enough times it's like you were watching it instead of living it?

That's a good possibility. It was never taped. But maybe after seeing the disappointed look on my father's face I just kind of imagined it form his point of view and that's all that stuck with me.

I think a lot of people have "out of body" experiences in stressful or emotional experiences. A lot of veterans describe fighting in battle by comparing it to an out of body experience. I guess it can even happen in less serious situations. One time a friend of mine got into a serious argument, to the point of pushing the other guy against the wall and yelling in his face. We asked him about it a few days later because he's usually really easy-going and he said it was like he was watching it happen and not actually doing it himself.
