I'll keep it simple, have there ever been any prophecies that have ever helped before the prophesied event? The only ones I have heard of are the ones that are discovered after the event. If thats the case, then what is the purpose is prophecy? It seems that lately there have been a lot of "doomsday prophecies", but they have all been crying wolf. Any thoughts or input would be welcome. grin2.gif

I can predict your future. You will pay taxes and at some point you will die.

Didn't need to be a prophet for that. Conveniently, any past prophecies that are alleged to have come true did so AFTER THE FACT. As far as the doomsday prophecies like you mentioned, let's take the 2012, center of the galaxy alignment one for example. Besides the fact there is no evidence for it, how many people do you know were alive to see it happen the last time around? None, exactly! Even if an event like that were to happen, there is no one who knows what WOULD happen. Doom and Gloomers remind me of a broken clock. It may be useless, but it's still technically accurate twice a day.

The law of averages does suggest that they are right every once in a while, but what good is it if we don't know until after the event? If it could be prophecied the events leading up to a catastrophe, then it might help instead of just some anomalous event by itself.

Here is a link to a site that has Nostradamus's information and his prophecies. I have read a few and some seem like reasonable prophecies, but most seem like a stretch to me. I'm still not sure what good can come from them, since they are too easily misinterpreted.

The thing with Nostradamus' prophecies along with many other "prophets" is that overall you could interpret them pretty much any way you wanted to. To say or mean anything you wanted. Then you also have to take into account what are called "self-fulfilling prophecies" meaning that a person can believe in something so much that he or she will subconsciously or unwittingly do whatever it takes to make it happen.

A real prophet could make a fortune, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one.

I believe the purpose of Christian prophesy is to increase Faith. When a prophesy was declaired/issued, whatever, then the people would write it down. Then if it came true, the people could point to it and say how their Prophet was correct and God is on their side, thus increasing their Faith.

Other prophesy I am not so sure off. I suppose some of it could be warnings to try to prevent bad/dangerous events from hurting people. Since the event is going to happen regardless, the prophesy could potentially save people that heard about it. They would not be in the wrong place at the wrong time, so to speak.

Just my Opinion however...
