I just can't believe a word you're saying because there just weren't enough capital letters involved.
WANSHA2
This is not a joke. I am typing on a lap top and in the dark. I came up on this sight. I am very much wanting to know any kind of answers or anything someone can help me with this. Again this is not a joke.
mmissamy
Well for starters just cause your on a laptop in the dark is no excuse for your horrible grammar. Secondly please elaborate on its long mouth cause if there was no beak I'm just picturing these huge long flappy lips. Thirdly is your hispanic friend a witch doctor or something? How old is she? Cause judging by your atrocious spelling ability you are still young therefore your friend may be young therefore might not exactly be an expert on voodoo curses.

Wansha2, in future please don't type completely in capitals. This goes against forum etiquette and is the equivalent of shouting. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Shiloh
I've seen Daffy duck beakless, so maybe it looked like that.
Ebonykrow
No one is going to take you seriously unless you can act seriously.

#1 I take this very serious. I am defensive because of that. I found this forum on line and was hoping it could be an answer. I am 42. I was typing in the dark and yes had my caps on. I didnt know this was all about if you spell correctly or not. I am trying to find anyone who could help me. how old are ya'll because it seems i am on a childs sight. I thought it was more of a grown up sight. But thanks for welcoming me with such couth.

Birders report beakless birds, just as they report one legged birds. It's a tough world out there, parts tear off, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

There are also misreports of beakless birds, when a person fails to resolve the beak against whatever the background is.

It does not sound as if you got an especially good look at this bird. I'm sure there were excellent reasons for diving under a picnic table, but it does limit the prospects for a positive idenitification. Big, Texan, diurnal, and makes a whooshing sound when it flies leaves open a lot of possibilities.
Sweetpumper
What does your friend being hispanic have to do with anything?
WANSHA2
Her being hispanic has to do with her saying it was voodoo from her culture. I thought i explained that.
Rosewin
Wow some people are just rude. I do not understand how bad grammar or netiquette relates to an account being unbelievable. If you have nothing nice to say maybe some should not say anything at all! Though it is good to follow the rules of the forum.

Either way perhaps their friend being Hispanic has to do with the belief that many Mexicans-Americans and Mexicans in Texas and Northern Mexico have in the lechuza. That is a witch (brujo or bruja) having the ability to shape shift into an evil owl like bird, lechuza simply means barn owl in Spanish, but the word takes on a new meaning in these regions. There is much more lore regarding lechuzas including their purpose, one is they follow or check up on those under a curse which they are administering, their behavior, and in other facets of their being.

Most likely what you saw was a vulture maybe? I know I saw a very huge bird once, with a wingspan about eight feet perhaps. It was in some trails, which ran along a dried up creek, we were visiting while skipping school. It looked very mythical. The fact that you saw it in a park might speak to it being in its habitat...wooded areas, etc...

WANSHA2
Thank you for your comment. I guess i need to clarify the size of the bird. It was easy the size of a plane. As far as the beak, it was like a (the only way to explain it ) long nose. I was looking at it for about 2 to 3 minutes befor we got under the picnic table. I wanted to yell at it and my friend said heck no and pulled me under the table. We looked at it because we couldnt believe our eyes and then we freaked.

No, you're not on a childs site. There are a lot of older people here. What you have to understand about a forum like this one, is that credibility is a very big issue. There are many people who come here and post stories that are, to be blunt, not very believeable. Most are discovered as being frauds by how the stories are told, and how (or if) those posting them answer questions about thier post. Lack of information, poor grammer or spelling, are also things that can be taken as a sign that the story might be a lie. Yeah, this place can be a bit hard on new people with stories to tell, but you have to keep in mind, that there are a good many fakers out there looking for attention. If you have a story to tell, then tell it, but it's always a good idea to take your time when writing it, so you can not only make it look good "word wise", but; you can also describe what happend in the most accurate way you can. Of course, no matter how much information you provide, or how descriptive and well written your story might be, there will always be those who will call you a lier. That, unfortunatly is just a fact of life, that deosn't mean you shouldn't tell you story though.

Good Journey.

Kyle Rajasthan.

He/she means witchcraft. It is the way some people talk when they mention voodoo they mean witchcraft just as some will use the word coke to refer to all soft drinks. It is why in some parts of Texas and I am sure other regions you will be asked what kind of coke do you want instead of what kind of soda do you want.

Well at times it is hard to tell the size of something and our perceptions might be inaccurate especially if the background is just the sky. Did it fly next to a tree or land so you could truly judge the size? Then again maybe you did really see exactly what you thought you saw but the excitement of the episode (jumping under the table) might lead to some inaccuracies. I doubt it was a lechuza. They are never the size of a plane though some have reported to have been six feet tall.

^ you should read clovis's 1st post. a lot of hispanics (a majority being mexicans) believe in the existance of witches and creatures. Like Clovis mentioned, the OP probably meant witchcraft, not voodoo.

Clovis is right (sorry, I never come to this forum, but when something with "bird" in the title pops up I check it out)

Perceptions can be easily hampered when gazing at objects in the sky. what looks huge, is often not as big as you might think. Lighting and weather can play a role too. For example... the other day it was a clear and beautiful day and in the late afternoon. I looked up and Mt. Ranier was so clear and positively LOOMING over the city. Now most days it looks quite far away (and it is 250 miles away from teh city) but I swear on Thursday, it looked HUGE and within about 15 miles of me. It of course was not.

You should stop looking for the paranormal explanation first and instead exhaust all other possibilities. Now, being that you're in TX, and knowing that perception can be thrown off, you should also consider that you have Condor in parts of TX. These birds ARE massive! Some of the biggest birds on the planet. It's quiet possible that you were lucky enough to spot one of these ellusive and private birds. When their heads are turned in flight, they can look beakless again, depending on your perception and orientation to them.

If you saw a Condor, I know I'd be wildly jealous... I've never seen one.

There are no known nesting sites in Texas, however, Condors have occasinally been spotted in the skies over parts west texas.

You do realize what you said, don't you? hehehehe

You might be surprised to know that there is lots of voodoo practiced all over the world and even in both Africa AND Haiti, among others!!! LOL.. Nile Shaman hopefully will come in to weigh in on that particular aspect.

LOL, that's what I was going to say... Haiti is NOT in America... and Voodoo is practiced a lot of places in the USA. New Orleans especially is known for it's large numbers of Voodoo practitioners. Heck, I know of voodoo practitioners in Seattle and that's a LONG way from New Orleans or Haiti... That's one of the weirdest posts I've seen here in a while.

But I agree, could have been a plane too... Any old Corsairs running around Tx out for test flights? They look like birds with their bent up wings and stuff.

Wow, how amazingly rude people are on here- maybe some of you could learn to grow up and not jump at the opportunity to cut other people down for once- that'd be amazing, and heck, it may even encourage people to post more often! thumbsup.gif

To the poster- I wonder if what you saw was a thunderbird- I don't know much about them, other than that they are really large birds- here is a site I came across for you. Oh yea, and I double checked my spelling to make everyone else happy hmm.gif

You're doing well. No caps lock on, and at least your monitor would reveal if it were. The original poster's monitor evidently didn't work in a darkened room. At least it didn't reveal he was posting in all caps. Oh, I think his dog ate his homework, too.

Wanna check out my profile, to see if you'd like to throw an insult or two my way, too?

I truly understand how annoying it can be when a poster doesn't spell very well, or who doesn't read the forum rules right away, but I think there are other ways we can deal with those annoyances with out being completely rude and/or sarcastic to that person. It deters other people from wanting to post their experiences, and that's a huge purpose of this site.
