PHOENIX - A mountain lion attacked, killed and partially ate a New Mexico man, authorities said on Tuesday.

A search party found the body of Robert Nawojski, 55, in a wooded area near his mobile home in Pinos Altos, New Mexico, late last week, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said.

Investigators concluded that Nawojski had been attacked and killed by a mountain lion, or cougar, at a spot close to his home, where he lived alone and was known to bathe and shave outdoors.

Spokesman Dan Williams said the lion subsequently dragged the man's body a short distance into nearby woodland and ate and buried parts of it.

Probably an old cat looking for easy prey. To bad they only wounded it. Wounded animals are even more dangerous.

Here is some interesting info on cougar attacks in the US and Canada. According to it the average is almost 6 people attacked per year, with almost 1 death every year.

I only posted this because I thought it was interesting. grin2.gif

That is so sad! Poor guy. I am way more afraid of cougars than bears. We have a lot of both here, they follow the deer and elk down the mountain to the river.

I knew a guy that use to have a Florida panther lay on his Mobile home roof. He never worried about it. I was really surprised when I was there visiting and heard it walking on the roof and he told me what it was.

Perhaps. Yet I know people who would choose just such a fate. In their minds, in their beliefs, to return to nature, to be recycled in that manner, suits their desires nicely. Everything is relative, eh?
