Submitted by Stance: A small territory community is still reeling with shock after four UFOs descended on their Outback homes. Families spent hours in fear as what appeared to be three spaceships hovered in the distance with another just metres above their houses.The drama at Marlinja, population 112 and 730km south of Darwin, began at 8pm on Sunday.Resident Janie Dixon said it started as an "ordinary" night."The kids were on the basketball courts, shooting a few hoops, and I was indoors talking to my two nieces when we heard a strange, loud noise," she said."We ran outside but at first we couldn't see anything -- it was really dark and we could hear the sound."The sound was horrible. It sounded like something was going past."We thought it was a jet. I saw what I thought at first was the evening star, the first star you usually see at night."But then we saw three red lights in the distance, and the sound kept getting louder."The ground felt like it was shaking, so we ran inside and shut the doors."My nephew and niece were looking out through curtains. The thing came closer, circled around the basketball courts and then came so close above our house."The kids at the basketball courts ran -- two girls stood there looking towards the sky."They tried to see what it was but all they could see was this bright red light in the pitch black."Ms Dixon said the UFO hovered above the homes for what seemed like a couple of hours.She said at one stage the phone rang, but went dead when she tried to answer it.

"Then the light in the house became so bright, it was like we were sitting in a football stadium," she said."After a while, after the things all disappeared... I think it was about 11pm by then."We went outside and were just sitting around drinking tea and talking about it all. The kids were put to bed."We heard the noise again and it came back, but disappeared again moments later."We were all really frightened.

Just Based on what people are say.....

so 2 hours and no one thought to get it on video ? shoot at it ? take pictures ? nothing ?

Some hide from tornadoes and some try to get pictures of them.
I doubt the whole community is trying to pull off a scam.
It does sound terrestrial to me though.
Perhaps it is part of a war game practice session.

I find it quite scary.
The UK is going crazy with UFo talk at the moment as well after the recent sightings by some squaddies caught on video.
Even the BBC news had a story on titled UFO WARNING.

Red lights... Hmmm. I would think that that if it had exterior lights, especially red ones, it would be terrestial. I find it hard to believe that an extraterrestial would use any lights on the exterior of the craft at all. That is a human contrivance. Anti-gravity propulsion has been in the works for a long time right here on earth. They gotta test these things somewhere.

When I relate it to this UFO stuff, I feel like there is truth somewhere between these lies and someone is throwing more of the lies to further bury the real truth even deeper... what do you think

secondly they aren't backwards . obviously they have phones.do they have tv's ? does not one person in that whole town own a camera ? a store even a small one ? its 25km north of Elliott which services it.

they may be poor , but a ufo 2 hours meters over your house ? out of a population of 112 -SOMEONE had to have at least a camera. were all phones dead or just hers ?

why don't you ask them?

First time I've ever wanted to say "Pic or it didnt happen" LOL

Not many people do I would assume due to the appaling, what I would class as third world conditions.
I tell ya something now, I got plenty of mates from out bush, camps and communities that have G3 Phones now with all the perks and they all got cameras on their phones.

My mate who lives in town is a single mother 2 kids, no man, no job, no family, she doesnt have a phone, or a camera.


Australian Aboriginal people do have education and many have achieved VERY high standards at University. The aboriginal poputaltion in the Cities thrive on education, working and living. Expensive as it is understandable.

Theres Cathy Freeman, Christana Anu, Mandya Urdapingu, Ernie Dingo, they are pillars of this nation and it takes you and I to respect that. These are the people communituies look up to to help promote good culture and potential for education.

Secondly........... Ive lived where i am FOREVER. Ive heard Sooooooooo many stories about lights in the sky. The Min Min is an example.
Whats to say that these people in their community are actually seeing something their not used to and that they dont really speak of??

Darwin has had heaps of military Exercises lately to. Tindal Air base is constantly pumping out the big guns over the top end.
That is just what we know off. Darwins infantry and Air are contantly on the go.

EXERCISE PITCH BLACK 2008 GEARS UP NORTHERN TERRITORY FOR AIR-TO-AIR COMBAT



Final preparations have begun for the most complex air combat training scenarios above the skies of the Northern Territory. From 6-27 June, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will host an array of international Air Force participants in Exercise Pitch Black 08.



Pitch Black is a regular RAAF exercise held every two years in the Northern Territory.

The curious thing about all of this UFO business is that without the doubt as to what it is we'd find something else to wonder passionately about, I hope the mystery lasts ....then again if these dubious hovering objects are really the works of extraterrestrial beings, why such mystery? Why haven't they pounced yet?

My mother works in the outback aboriginal communities south of Darwin, and she is visiting with me at the moment, and I was just asking her about this. She said at the community where she works, NO-ONE has a mobile phone, they don't get reception out there, and there are NO House phones either, there are only 2 pay phones that Telstra put out there, but they are constantly being vandalised, so they never work, because Telstra is sick of sending people out to fix them, so they aren't high priority on Telstra's repair list.

NONE of the aboriginals in the community she works for, have cameras, as it is against their culture, as they fear that cameras capture their souls.

So it is not suprising that this community had nothing to use to get 'proof' of what these lights were. Most of them just have the clothes on their backs and thats it.

Boy i can't wait to see at least one of those excellent photos/video that at least one citizen out of 112 took....we know for a presumptive fact that at least mathamatically a couple people had cameras/video, and since this was so "significant" took a picture or video of the ufo...so boy i can't wait !!

Yeah you are right about Pitch Black I was living in Katherine near Tindal airbase years ago and there where jets taking off all the time. But back to the story they said they where at Marlinja (Newcastle waters) another 400 km south of Katherine and on a Sunday.

It could have been apart of Pitch Black, or not.
