Ever since I was a little child I had been fascinated with the Titanic. To think that the 'unsinkable' had actually sunk was just amazing. From all the documents and stories that I have read, I know that there were a lot of wealthy and political people on board that went down with the ship.
So my question is, with these people being on board, and thus dying, do you think that history would have been different had the ship not gone down?

i love the movie, it makes me cry each time.
& i feel really sad for the people who died, i think the person who created the ship, if he didnt die, shouldve been sued.
& if it didnt go down, then leonardo dicaprio would never have been as famous as he is now,
i would cry, he was gorgeous in that movie ahha.

I had just leaned upon TV that the Team of searchers with the mini unmanned exploration sub that found the Titanic was not really searching for the Titanic as they reported to the public, but were in fact upon a Employed by US Navy to search for a Submarine that was lost years ago, and they came across the Titanic in the process of the search for the Missing Sub, I am not sure which Sub they were searching for however as that was not disclosed nor was it mentioned if the Miss Sub was ever found after the discovery of the Titanic…

Of course it would have been different, but we'll never know how. Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?

Well, I do believe the Titanic tragedy certainly changed things. I think it gave people a chance to look again at how we view the class system and how horribly the lower classes were treated and how so many died in the sinking. Yeah, I would think that if the ship didn't go down, we may have the same view of classes today, then how it was viewed years ago. Money certainly didn't prevent a lot of wealthy women from becoming widows. That ship and it's fate certainly changed the minds of the world, I believe.
I also think it's was a significant knocking of sense of making sure all ships have the amound of lifeboats to fill everyone on board. I think the Titanic was the last ship to have the less amount of life boats to the amount of passengers and crew.

Many of the passengers had dreams or premenitions of the ship sinking, maybe even the captain did but nobody did anything about it.

How is the sinking of the titanic an Ancient Mystery/Alternative History Stuff???

Because the OP asked 'what if' the Titanic didnt sink, Alternative to what actually happened. different i dont know, i think it was just a terrible tragedy that was made popular by the Films, i think the same could be said for any event of this kind really. It certainly had a revolutionary effect as it was the first time the 'Women and Children First' rule was realy put into effect on such a large scale (since HMS Birkenhead) where, as a consequence of this, 74% of women on board were saved, 52% of children, but only 20% of men.

I don't know what would have happened if the Titanic hadn't sunk, but if all those poor souls had survived there would undoubtably have been differences between our current world and theirs.
Maybe one of the passengers perfected cold fusion in the thirties negating all our current energy problems, maybe another became a politician who kept america out of WW2 allowing the 3rd Reich to succeed leading to the first man on the moon being Herman Goerings grandson. We'll never know
But by the lord Harry! wouldn't it make a good baseline for a movie!

I know a few facts tat would have happened if the Titanic had not sunk at all
1. James Cameron wouldnt have made the movie.
2. Gone with the Wind would have remained on top as the highest grossing movie of al ltimes.
3.Leonardo Di Caprio wouldnt be a heart throb to the girls!! He would have passed by as a just So-So actor.
4. Clive Cussler wouldnt have written "Raise The Titanic" and the awful movie adaptation wouldnt have been made.
5. Celine Dion would not have sung "My heart will Go On"..though it is a nice song!!

6. Population of the world will be more than now!!

I believe that the Titanic tragedy was also instrumental in the creation of the International Ice Patrol, for which we can all be thankful. Similarly, the disaster led to a shift in shipping lanes and updated regulations regarding the amount of lifeboats required on board all ships.

i always find it stupid how they didnt have nearly enough lifeboats for it

Interestingly enough, the Titanic was well within the legal recommendation of its day in having far too few lifeboats. At the time, lifeboat regulations were based on the tonnage of ships rather than the amount of passengers they carried. Consequently, these outdated regulations did not take into account the 'superships' of the Titanic and Olympic class which far exceeded the previously established the maximum tonnage. It took the sinking of the Titanic to bring these regulations up to date and ensure lifeboats for all on board.

It was all Violet Jessups fault. She is the woman who was on the Titanic and the sistership the Britannic when they both sank. She survived them both. The was also aboard the Olympic (a third unsinkable sister ship) when it hit a navy cruiser in 1911 but did not sink. I would not want to be on a boat with this woman.

Yes upon many levels I believe History would be different perhaps, you may have met a true Love through the Grandparents that were upon the Voyage and maid it, perhaps we would now have a whole Art Gallery full from the works from hearts and Minds of great and unknow Poets and Artists who made the Voyage to their destination, perhaps the Cure of Pancredic Cancer would have been already found, but the truest Loss of all was in those hearts Lost and babes not made of Eros, yes it would be a very different world… how could it not be...

Ha! Thanks for this, I've never heard of her. What a bizarre set of circumstances.
I agree, I wouldn't want to go boating with her either.

Sounds like the plot of the classic Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever", where Kirk must let Joan Collins die to prevent the Nazis from winning the war...
