Friend of mine told me a story last week (it came from her friend) and I thought it actually sounded more like an urban legend and I was wondering if anyone heard something similar.

Apparently my friend's friend new a girl who had a dog. It was Bull mastiff x and it was a great puppy but then as it turned 2 years old (and very big) it started being very possessive of her husband and every morning as soon as the husband was out of bed the dog would take his spot and tried to bite the wife every time she told him to get out of the bed. After few weeks every time the dog jumped into bed it started stretching next to the wife who was only 4'10". Anyway, after few days the dog stopped eating and as it was loosing weight husband took the dog to the vet. When he explained to the vet how the dog was behaving lately before he stopped eating the vet told him to get the dog put down as it was getting ready to eat the wife. The dog was put down that day.

I think it is an amazing story but I really can't believe that this really happened. What do you think? Urban legend???

It's an urban legend. I heard one similar to this about a snake.

Just found that one (about a snake) on Snoops but nothing about the dog. I guess it's very alike.

Yeah urban legend. I mean come on what kind of vet jumps to that conclusion?

"The dog wants to eat your wife."

"What? Umm...don't you want to do some tests or something. Might be worms maybe?"

"Nope clearly the dog wants to eat a human. All dogs want to eat people but most just hide it better than others."

This could be true. The guy who used to live next door to me got eaten by his two Australian kettle dogs after he died from heart attack. He was dead for 3 weeks before he was found and by that time dogs ripped him to bits. They were hungry I guess. Until then, I always thought it's only cats that do that.

I'm going with urban legend on this one...We had a huge black dobie who was very attached to my hubby..It got to the point that when I went to go to bed, the big jumbo would jump on first and growl at me and not let me near the bed.. wacko.gif I doubt if he wanted to eat me, just being very protective of the hubby... original.gif

I agree that a dog wouldn't eat a person alive. But once they are dead, I have absolutely no trouble believing it. Like the case where the man died of a heart attack ans was found weeks later after the dogs had eaten bits of him. Once we are dead, we become really nothing more than meat to a hungry dog that we use to feed, but are now unable to. Dogs are scavangers, and will eat what they can.

Sounds like an urban legend to me but creepy if true.

What would be most rewarding, for the entire field of Urban Legend research, would be to ascertain when and how this tale shifted from snakes to dogs.

Yeah, this was mentioned in Kenneth Anger's Hollywood Babylon. For those who don't know, she was a silent movie actress.I think she appeared ina few talking pictures, but her career hit the skids and I think she became an alcholic.

I searched everywhere for a "Wife eating Dog".
I went to craiglist, Ebay....No luck.

evenif the owner was dead i doubt the dogs would devour them staight away
they would probably wait a few days until they knew if they didnt eat they would die
