When i was like 10 and living in the philipines me and my sister were in the garden, we were by the fosset(for the hose to water the plants) and there was this wierd insect by the fosset. It was orange and was small, it was around the size of my finger nail. we took it and put it in a jar with some leaves, it survived a day or so but then it died. when it died it realy stank.

It looks VERY MUCH like this prehistoric animal:

http://www.rogerwendell.com/images/evoluti..._09-04-2006.jpg

it was around that size but a little smaller and orange.

I know the trilobite is extinct but maybe there is another animal that looks similar to it. I remember seeing crocodile hunter steve irwin holding this crab/trilobite looking thing that he found in a river or something, it looked almost exactly like my insect but it wasnt orange, it was a little bigger than his hand.

does anyone know what i found? ive always been curious, if you know what animal im tlaking about do you know if they live in the philipines? as far as i know there isnt anything like that there. it definetly wasnt some ordinary insect, it looks almost exactly like that trilobite but orange.

Probably a woodlouse.

I realy dont think it was a woodlouse, ive played with them plenty of times when i was younger and this wasnt one as far as i know. but i think you might have answered my question anyway. i found something called a Giant isopod on google it looks so much like what i found and its definetly the thing steve irwin was looking at.
here are some pics , ugly looking things...

EDIT: Now that i think about it, it looked a little bit more like a The Horse shoe crab, but without the tale:

http://www.kellysberger.com/hscrab_web.jpg...ab_web-full.jpg

I cant remember exactly what it looked like but its either a giant isopod, a horseshow crab or a wierd mutant woodlouse...

The top part looked like a horseshoe crab, i remember it had 2 body parts, there was a split in the middle like the horseshoe crab but it was orange, i cant remember if it had a tail...it could have also been an isopod, in the picture i showed you can see it has some sort of flap on its backside. i dont think it was a normal woodlouse because it was orange(ive only seen black, brown, light brown, and i think white ones) but mainly because woodlouse seem to have only 1 body part, the thing i saw had a split in the middle like the horseshoe crab and giant isopod.

its either one of the three, but i highly doubt it was a woodlouse. i dont know if the giant isopod and horseshoe crab live in the philipines, if they do then they would probably be extinct or rare by now because philipinos hunt down and eat everything....

damn i feel sick looking at all those disgusting insects...

Did it look like this. This is a woodlouse. They come in a few colours.

no i can almost guarantee it wasnt a woodlouse, the body of the thing looked more like a horseshoe crab or a giant isopod, i cant remember exactly how many legs it had but i remember it didnt have that many.

I used to eat Woodlice when i was a kid. Used to eat the head and leave the rest behind the sofa.

I was a disgusting child.

Tried looking for what you said you saw, but i stopped because all the pictures of the bugs were making me shiver!

A giant isopod IS a woodlouse.
A horseshoe crab is an arachnid.
They are not closely related. One is marine and related to mainly terrestrial animal and the other is terrestrial an related to mainly marine animals.

Well i think it realy was a horseshoe crab, i looked at some pictures of baby horseshoe crabs and i think it looked quite similar except my insect wasnt transparent, it was orange. I remember when we found it i thought it looked like the 1st version Kabutops from Pokemon before it evolves into kabutops lol.

I dont have a clue if there are horseshoe crabs in the philipines, if there are their probably quite rare by now(the natives and poor people hunt and eat almost anything...). Ive seen wierd things like spider crabs but no horseshoe crabs.

If there are actualy horseshoe crabs there then there could be a simple explanation, perhaps our neighbour bought one, decided to wash it by the outdoor fosset, the crab was pregnant and had some babies on it, when it was being washed a baby fell off.

But damn their disgusting those giant woodlouse are DISGUSTING.

Lycan, if you took the time to read the post directly above yours, you'd see that I posted that link already. Mine was only the post #12. Don't people ever read anything more than the OP? Jeesh! blink.gif
