The relationship between citrulline and arginine might also prove helpful to those who are obese or suffer from type-2 diabetes. The beneficial effects—among them the ability to relax blood vessels, much like ****** does—are beginning to be revealed in research.

Very interesting!

My hubby has diabetes and high blood pressure (he's a mess laugh.gif ), and the dr. told him watermelon was one of the fruits he can eat. Of course after now reading what else it can do to a man I may just eliminate the melon and double his pills... original.gif

Now THAT'S what I call hard evidence.

I read this in the paper yesterday, and it did say that it is NOT a miracle replacement for those little pills.

According to the Australian, the ammount of watermelon consumed to reach a level of anywhere near as effective as those other alternatives is massive - 6 cups (!) - to the point where it is impractical, as I am certain that you all know that eating that much watermelon can result in some messy side effects.
Also, the citrulline, which is the effective ingredient, is mostly found in the inedible rind, not the flesh.

But still, this is an interesting development (Y)
