And the object described reminds me of the one(s) that my wife and I saw fairly regularly back in the 1980s: A large object at fairly low altitude with alternating (not flashing) colored lights. We called it "our UFO."
One night about 10 of us watched it: My wife, our two neighbors, several local kids, and my in-laws. We split into groups and when we reassembled our descriptions matched exactly.
So IMO no one has ever needed to fake evidence of UFOs. There's too much good evidence out there already.
