I'm just going to jump right in here and tell it, so bear with me if my descriptions leave something to be desired.
A couple of months ago, My husband and I had just gone to bed. He was out like a light as soon as his head hit the pillow. I usually take longer to fall asleep. The bed is queen size, so there's room on either side of us. We were both laying on our backs. I keep my eyes closed so that I won't see any "apparitions" if they should appear. (I don't think I could handle that) I sensed a presence and wondered what would happen this time? Then, starting at the foot of the bed, it was as if a very large heavy person walked up the bed, stradling us, one foot on my side, then one foot on his side till it reached our pillows. There was no doubting that the bed was being pressed on deeply. (it's a tempurpedic type) At this point, my heart was pounding like no heart ever should. I was not paralyzed, but I did not move. That stopped, then, I heard from my husbands side of the bed, just at his hip and behind it, a growl/hiss sound. I am not used to such auditory terror! Then, with my minds eye, from the exact spot the sound came from I saw a large wolf/rabid dog type of creature and it looked at me with pure hate. It then leapt at me just as I was readying to call Jesus. It actually just contacted my face before it suddenly disappeared as if with a poof sound. My face actuallyy felt the contact. I ended up praying my head off and finally falling asleep. To me, this is embarassing and I have no reason to lie about it. I would rather have told no one.
Also, I have countless times been ready to fall asleep, then I feel a presence and it's like a wall of evil pounces on me. If I don't do anything, it just stays there. I can feel weight and it seems to have a roughly human shape. I am not paralyzed. I call to Jesus and poof, it goes. About two weeks ago, I was already asleep and in my "dream" I was being choked just as I was laying there in my bed. I realized I actually was, and fully woke to the feeling of being choked and throttled. I called on Jesus to the best of my ability given that i couldn't get air, and poof. It left. I was not paralyzed except for the short time I was actually still asleep. I'll stop for now, but those'are some of my experiences.

You are describing hypnogogic hallucinations, multimodal and accompanied by strong affect.

Since your complaint is chronic and disturbs you, you may wish to consider taking it up with a healthcare professional, seeking a referral to a sleep disorder or other specialist. I notice that you are posting from California. Your treatment may well be covered by ordinary health insurance.

Good luck with it.

I solute you thumbsup.gif for coming out on this board to share your experience. I know it's hard to do... and there's absolutely NO NEED of being embarrassed about anything. You've done nothing wrong, and these experiences are certainly not your fault.
That being said.

I have to throw this out there first off GIN, but TRY to go to sleep on your stomach (preferably), or side, and avoid going to sleep lying on your back. At least give this a try and see if things don't lighten up.

ok, my sister has episodes very similar. She's been experiencing this man she calls "the elephant man" for years now. Her experiences are SO intense and vivid that this thing swings her by her feet in circles and she can see herself pass by the mirror as she's being slung around.
It also drags her up the wall, unto the ceiling... into the ceiling fan then it drops her.. The strangest part is that even after some of these experiences, she's actually sore in certain parts of her body from this..

There's a lot more, but that's just an example of what she goes through sometimes.

WOW! ohmy.gif And WOW again! I am so sorry for your sister!! I hope she can find a solution, and soon!
I do often go to sleep on my stomach and side. It doesn't seem to make a difference. When I was being choked, I was on my side. And on another occasion, I was sleeping on my side and dreamed I was being smothered with a pillow. I woke fully, out of air and being pressed hard into the bed and thier was no pillow on my head. There is always a deep sense of evil present and a sense of terror. I think that only people who have experienced evil can understand the feeling. There is no mistaking it and it is no hallucination. Thank you, Shanky, for the salute! Much appreciated. wub.gif

O Gin, I had just gotten home from work one night, was lying in my bed. I had just sat down and laid back when I saw these huge bat like shadows on the ceiling. Some were bigger than others, maybe five in total. Then this sudden feeling of Doom suddenly came over me. A feeling that there is NOT a term we have to describe. A fear, doom, despair, grief, every bad negative emotion we have rolled up in one, and that doesn't' even come close to getting it across- the extent of it.
I started to get this paranoid sensation, as if something was in the room with me. So, I covered my eyes with my right arm bent over my face. I felt this strong urge to look around the room, and I did. I immediately saw to my right an old woman standing there next to my bed. She was staring at me. Glowing from the inside out. Her eyes were these huge black holes. She had grey hair, & No expression on her face at all. She was just looking down with her head turned staring at me. She bent over me.. She started moving in closer and closer to me. I started to move backwards.. crawling backwards into my headboard, until I couldn't move back any further. She had eventually got so close to my face, her nose was almost touching mine. (sigh).
It was at that point, that I couldn't take it another second. I felt my heart was about to explode.. I couldn't jump up and run out the door, because I'd have to go thru her, and I was NOT going there.
I immediately turned over, closed my eyes, and began to pray to God out loud. Saying the "the Lord's prayer" as best I could remember being so scared out of my mind.
I looked back over and she was still there.
I kept praying..
Finally, I don't know how long it was, I turned back over peeping to see, and she started to literally fade away.

anyway...
That scared the living Sh!t out of me. It took some years from me, I do believe.

THAT is why I keep my eyes closed! HOW did you come out of that with any stitch of sanity???! Wow! (((((((((((Shanky)))))))))))) And you described the indescribable feeling very well. We don't have a word for it. It is too much. I think you may be right about it taking years from you! I have felt the same thought. The feeling that your heart would explode...exactly! How many people do you think may have "mysteriously" died "in thier sleep" from that? You may have saluted me, but I bow to you!! If anything like that ever happens again, go straight for the big guns! Call out to Jesus. Honest. It works! Much love, sister!

I would consider this, Starr, but I'm not always asleep when it starts and I'm never paralyzed. I think that SP is used too often as an escape word when a doc doesn't know what else to tell you. I am not talking about your case, just in general.

Bless your sweet heart, GIN!
That feeling of darkness, and doom stayed with me for weeks. So, it wasn't like it disappeared the next day, or I was so easily able to forget the essence in my room that night- It was so striking it stayed with me... for a while.

You mentioned how many people have died in their sleep because of it, we don't know. But, (SIGH) i found my father passed in his bed shortly after that. I wonder about it sometimes. The only thing is, when I found him he had a smile on his face.
but a good question, no doubt. There is no telling how many.

I called out Jesus, and recited the Lord's Prayer best I could, I couldn't think at the moment. But, I've learned since then don't just hit it, but nuke it, and do it immediately. Jesus works every time. thumbsup.gif

There's always some psuedo-hindu psychological mahambo jambo reason for everything....in a paranormal forum, no less. lol. I buy it sometimes. I really do. You have to allow for mental disorders and psychotropic malnormities. Unfortunately, these causes are readily prescribed in this forum, and the paranormal is hardly considered anymore. Personally, I wouldn't presume to offer any prognosis until I had further information or additional and detailed data to analyse. Thank you so much for your account GIN. It is indeed petrifying. I solute your bravery, even posting it here, much less dealing with the actual event itself. You show great resolve and temperance, as you haven't labeled this phenomenon, only relayed its' terrifying aspects. Please let us know of any further developments. I have had similar accounts from other interviews, but never with an animal (or the countenance of one) involved. Very peculiar. It almost takes on aspects of a aboriginal "vision" of somekind. Very interesting. Thanks for posting, and keep us apprised. thumbsup.gif ~Jackal

Wonder if it would have the same affect if you used another name like Budda or Mommand. After all there are a lot of religions out there and I'm sure there are ghosts/whatever who don't know who this Jesus fellow is.

"Hey Hades your dog is loose again. Drag him back in will ya."

As for the OP freaky stuff. Has your husband felt anything or is it just you who are having these experiences. If the same thing is happening to him then it's not likely to be anything medical.
Elite
well heres what i think
you feel and hear these events because of a sleeping disorder thats like sleep paralysis
and the reason it went away when you alled for jesus is because you belive in jesus and you belive he would save you sleep paralyis link
so because your mind created the threat and your mind beleives in jesus then in its logic the threat should go away
theres my explanation

Holy crap.
Definately a sleep disorder. Has ANYONE ever tried to have a sleep study done that has these issues? Or do you all just resort to sea salt, prayer, and exorcisms?
I'm not trying to be mean, but DRAGGED UP A WALL? SWUNG BY HER FEET?
COME ON PEOPLE! I don't doubt she wakes up hurting and sore, and I don't doubt it's remarkably vivid. I DON'T doubt that she needs to see sleep specialist.

Hey, egg.

One of those TV preachers said something that I think would be life changing for a lot of folks around here.

Sometimes, Jesus works through doctors.

LadyHay
Hehe you guys too funny.

But seriously, Egg has a point. If I were suffering from this on a regular and continuous basis (and I have on occasion had SP and it IS horrific!) , I would see a sleep clinic. Just for my own peace of mind.

I also do believe that if we can call on our higher power to make it stop, we possibly might even have created it also. Mind you, I am not saying that this is definitely GIN and Shanks problem as I remain open to any and all possibilities, but that road should go both ways. I would just like to see someone taking the steps to take care of it.

We have a few people here who say, "Oh yes, I have experienced similar, and went to my doctor/had tests done/was recommended therapy, and yup, SP is what it is" and the sad thing is, most of these recent sufferers say, "But mine is definitely different. I was awake/I could move/etc", not allowing or not making any room for possibilities other than paranormal.

I'm not disbelieving here. Honestly I'm not. Quite frankly, it upsets me that people are being frightened. Fear is a nasty emotion and I would just like to see people taking every measure they can to fix a problem. Whether it is a paranormal problem or not, it is affecting the quality of one's sleep (whether they were actually asleep at the time or not) because it can affect how they feel about actually entering their bedroom. Their bedroom and all things associated with sleep become tainted with negativity.

Because I am a curious person by nature, I do not assume things carelessly. In the event I were suffering from this, I would want to find out the cause. Some people might decide to do psychic protection, cleansing, prayer, AND the sleep clinic together, but as I said, I would probably want to know the reason behind these troubles, and probably try the sleep clinic first.

Mind you, as I mentioned already, I have experienced this once or twice - not enough to warrant concern at this point, but mainly nightmares and bad dreams can come in waves for me. So I do strive to keep my house as positive as I can. Believe it or not, organizing my room and saging, and crystal work makes me feel better in general, which leads to a good night sleep. Mind over matter? Maybe, but it works for me. (Clean house, clean mind or something like that original.gif )

If I had anything more serious than bad dreams however, I would take more drastic measures to fix it.

I hope GIN and Shank and anyone else do cope with this. I cannot imagine anything coming at me in my most vulnerable state - sleep.

((GIN)) NO need to be embarrassed. Shankpin, you and I have all been thru the same thing, only with different visuals and auditory illusions. I have had some things happen lately too, that were VERY unpleasant, but like you guys, I stick to prayer and inner strength, but its not always that easy..Many of these events DO occur at night, and can wake us up. Night terrors are not always in your mind, but true events..PM me Sweetie, I am always here for you..JN wub.gif

Funny a good friend of mine had a similiar experience when he slept in the livingroom he would hear footsteps coming towards him and when he slept in his bedroom it was a rabid dog night after night. I had always equated it in his case that he had a terrible alcohol problem and perhaps he was visually seeing a very bad thing that took over his mind and body. Another part of me wonders if your faith influences what you encounter. For example I have had paranormal experiences and have seen apparitions but never anything that was demonic or that I thought would hurt me and I find people of certain faiths often equate certain paranormal experiences to demons and such. So I do wonder if your beliefs has alot to do with it or perhaps your perceptions even cause I tend to think if someone with a different mindset saw some of the things I saw they would flip and possibly could equate to something bad. Don't get me wrong I think there are things which are not good I just try not to even give them enough power to equate them to anything that could hurt me what so ever and in doing that perhaps you take away the bad forces power if indeed they do exist. I saw this episode of ghost hunters last night where a woman who was a skeptic was with them and nothing really happened but it was when she left that a ton of strange things started happening like objects being thrown so I almost wonder if her belief or lack of took away the power of whatever spirits or forces were there to interact with the living. Just my thoughts

You have no reason to be embarassed if your a sensitive then I think your lucky, I guess its better not to see or hear things in some instences though. Maybe you should get a priest in to bless your home?
Finity
Had a few really strange things happen to me while I was very young in our old house. First, I have a fading memory from when I was maybe 5 of being hit by or VERY closely missed by a bolt of lightning, I even remember what it looked like (it was bright blue and split off into loads of little branches). But since I was out of sight of other people at the time I have no witness to confirm or deny it happening :/

Second I used to get "night terrors" all the time, I'm told I used to see my own Mum as a "monster" and run away. But I can't really remember any of them. These pretty much stopped after moving house. I think I had one since when I was about 13, I was so convinced objects/furniture in my room was flying round me I dodged out the way and dived out of the door tongue.gif

The third and the one that scared me so much that nothing has scared me since is: During one night I had something banging on my bedside cabinet, being so young I just hid under my covers and was to scared to look what was doing it. But in the morning there was clawing or nail marks on the side of the cabinet which was separating the plastic coating away from the wood and glue (this was pretty strong stuff). I had no cats or dogs, but even if I did I doubt they would have the strength to do that ohmy.gif

The first 2 can be explained by either mixed up early memories or common conditions in kids. But the 3rd still puzzles me to this day, because the damage was physical and highly visible (I think I still have the cabinet somewhere).
flyinghigh23

I think that there are definite "lower energies" that exist, and unfortunately, I think some of them live off feeding on negativity and fear. I think that praying to God is a good way of dealing with them, but that's only an action after the fact. What about prevention? For me, I wouldn't want to wait for the wolf or ghost or whatever to show up at my bed- I want to prevent that from happening.

Now, for some religious people, you may not believe in energy work because it sounds too new age, but that's exactly how these energies manifest. I think that if you can teach yourself grounding techniques, that these things may not happen at all. All that it means is that you are teaching yourself how to own your own energy field, so that these spirits can't bother you. If you are a christian, then you could practice meditation around Jesus and surrounding yourself with white light. Visualizing a cord going into the ground is also very helpful. It centers you to the earth, and there you can send off all your fear or negative energy that may be attracting these energies. Otherwise, it's like having a house and not locking it. You may think the house protects you, but really what is there that's keeping people from coming in unless you lock it? Same with your spiritual energy. If you don't believe this, then you're basically saying that what you experienced wasn't real either.

Again, praying to God is all good and fine, or using any positive words like "love, God". Again if you practice meditation, or prayer, then center those things around grounding yourself and seeing a white or gold light around your body. It even helps to say in your mind, "My body is my body, and no one is welcome to be around me except postive loving energies."

I used to have really horrible nightmares not long ago- I really felt like I was being spiritually attacked too. I would be lying in my bed in the dreams, and these ghostly figures would start hovering around me and scaring me. They were terrifying. In the dream, I would call out to God, and they too would go away, but they would keep happening night after night. So, I started grounding myself more- owning myself and my energy field, and voola, the dreams stopped. Hope something works for you, because that kind of terror has to be the worst, but you just need to learn how to protect yourself from it- which is not outside the realm of christianity to do, btw.

I agree. Be sure you are saved, then nothing can touch you.

Sounds like she is saved, but this is still happening to her. Being saved isn't enough, she has to learn how to own her own energy so these things won't bother her anymore. She can use Jesus or God to help with that though.

I assume you were talking to me. I think it would be really hard to do that in that situation, but what I meant was to do it on a regular basis, like during the day for a few minutes- some time when these scary things don't typically occur. Sounds like they happen at night, so you could practice energy work and grounding and prayer work during the day, so it protects you later. It's already too late when it's happening, so I make the point that the prevention work would be more beneficial during a time that these things don't happen. If you make a regular habit of owning your own self and energy field, then you're essentially saying "back off" to these other energies, and they should stay away. They can't be in your energy field when you've already owned it for yourself.

Sleeping problems, the hallucinations sometimes occur before you fall asleep, when you are in that inbetween state. Prayer is great, but do try to get checked out. It wouldn't hurt. A sleep study could only help. And keep on praying sweetie. The one factor that is steady in this all is you are in bed at the time. A good question is whether or not your hubby is experiencing any of this. I hope you have more restful evenings. I am off to bed myself and I hope I don't experience anything like you guys have, but I know what to do if I do! Yep, I'd be saying my prayers.
