I dont know if anyone caught the news this morning, but it featured a report on a shop in Scotland selling hamster-fur jackets!
I found the link but the site was - sorry - so I am posting this one instead!
London tailor drops hamster fur coat... (Telegraph UK)
'Gieves & Hawkes, the up-market London tailor has just dropped the idea of supplying hamster fur coats to the rich and trendy. The outfitters, which supplies suits and uniforms to the London well-off, had intended to include a hamster fur jacket in its autumn collection for younger men. The jacket, said to contain the pelts of 100 farmed hamsters, was to be offered next month for about US$5,000. But no sooner had news of the jacket been made public, than the company was condemned by animal welfare groups. Design director James Whishaw has now announced his company's decision to ditch the jacket. "The use of leather and animal fur for clothing, accessories and footwear is generally accepted as part of a luxury product offering" he said. "However, Gieves & Hawkes accepts that the use of farmed hamster fur has offended some people. We made only one such jacket, and intend to make no more." Somehow, jackets made from hamsters sounds just as appalling as having a coat made from the family dog...'
Fur is utterly appalling as it is - but hamster fur?
The mind boggles - what next? Dead people pelts?

Thankfully we have cotton and other such materials to wear, there is no need to wear clothes made from poor little animals

I don't see how it's that different except for the fact that more animals are killed. A few is ok but maybe we're killing too many.
Are they at least making use of their meat? I hate things being wasted, especially when it costs an animal it's life.

But she does it when it's convenient. She poses nude for the publicity and then wears the fur because she gets paid loads for it. Why do you hate people who deceive in an attempt to further their own careers!?

I dislike hypocrites, especially ones who do anything for £££££'s.
And no, they aren't making use of the meat.

That is not right!
They can't just go around skinning and killing hamsters!
What if they make coats out of the fur and it takes 100 hamsters to make 1?
Think how many hamsters would be killed!!!

The picture of the pig was to big. Go to google, search in images for pig, then tilt your head to the side (any side will do. I don't discriminate) and go "aaarrrrrr".

On a side note, that is deeply sick

LOL Talon.......perhaps you missed the bit where Hams said that the link to the exact story was not very nice so she wasn't posting it. Regardless of whether the name of the shop has been mentioned in the post by Hams, it doesn't change the fact that it was a Scottish shop that was in the headlines.
May I suggest doing a google search on " Hamster jackets " ? I'm sure you will find ALL the information you could possibly want

well after the shop in scotland recieved complaints, the reply was...."its really up to us what we sell!"
what a cow!
i dont eat meat and dont agree with the killing of animals for any reason!
i think its especially wrong when its for fur! lets face it, fur wearers deserve skinned alive so that i can feel glam and elegant in their skin!
i have a (fake) fur jacket, and do u know how many people said 'is that real' ?loads, thats how many, to which they got a sharp answe of 'NO, WHO DO U THINK I AM? NIOME EFFING CAMPBELL", however the point is, it must look real, so if u can have something that looks real, why do u need the real thing!

I agree, you can have a good fur substitute and you can't tell the difference. Yet with corn, I would rather eat meat if it wasn't for where it came from. Corn chilli is alright though.

do u mean quorn?
ive given it to meat eaters and they never knew the difference!

I think so. What's the difference?
"ive given it to meat eaters and they never knew the difference!"
Well their taste buds obviously don't deserve meat. I taste a big difference between the 2.

corn is corn, like corn on the cob!
and quorn is similar to tvp except its mushroom based.
if u did not like it, it probably was not cooked right!
if ur ever in my neck of the woods ill make u dinner, u cant say fairer than that!

THEY BETTER NOT SKIN THEM ALIVE
hamsters can survive without their skin, but they would be in imense pain, and probly would die of infection!
It's sick, scientist used to extract hamster blood from the back of the eye, which resulted in loss of eyesight, Basicly, they went blind. and sometimes they accedently struck the brain with the needle, resulting in death or, major brain damage.

HUMANS ARE SO CRUEL

Here is what I find morally reprehensible

somebody Farmed these Hamsters to make jackets out of them .
New Zealand has a pest problem . Possums, they destroy the natural vegetation , slowly starving the native song birds they eat and kill baby Kiwi 's and there eggs (on the endangered list), Royal albatross eggs (also on the endangered list) , Yellow eyed penguin eggs(again on the endangered list ) .New Zealand has no natural predators to destroy , these very active breeders that spread diseases like T.B. through our cattle . The eco-system over here is suffering . Possum fur is an ecological alternative to farmed fur . The animals live a natural life . I don't think it's callous at all .
Personally I would not wear a farmed fur coat , but I would happily invest in possum fur .

Now I have a disturbing image of skinned hampsters running around in an open field.

What have you been feeding the dog, glam?

pink vegetarian dog food!
it makes your dog not only pink and animal friendly, it also makes your dog jump forever in a happy fashion while the wind blows threough my glam hair!

yes dogs can be healthy if not healthier on a veggie diet, although the food is not really pink, lol

Actually it is quite difficult to administer a contraceptive . I know it's a difficult debate and one that there is no real easy answer to. Most possums are trapped using bait cages . It would be possible to place hormone reducing laced bait in the cages . However you won't allways catch possums and desexing an animal on the endangered list could also be concidered irresponsible . Also in most cases hormone reducing contraceptives take atleast 2 doses a primer and an activator . That obviuosly increases the chances of desexing the wrong animal and decreases the chances of desexing the right animal .
