Full Version: Sleep Paralisis and other strange things...

This is a very long story. So let me first tell you a little about my self. My name is Adam and I'm 13 years old. I have tourette syndrome and OCD. But lately I've had more problems to overcome. Started in about mid-late November I remember having sleep paralisis for the first time. When I had it, it wasn't very bad. I just woke up from my dream, except I couldn't move anything, not even open my eyelids. But nothing scary happened. The next night I remember awaking at around 4:13. I was up for about 20 seconds, then I layed my head down to go back to sleep. But as I put my head down, I head the boxes in my room(which I thought was there, but really wasn't) and there was banging on my wall, and someone opened my closet doors. He started walking around my room. I got the sense of evil, it was like he was a demon. I was too scared to look, but I took a peak and it was a tall black figure. So..I ran down to my parents room tongue.gif. After that I did some research on it. I figured out that upon waking or drifting off to sleep all that can happen, and that I'm still in my dream. So I started to feel ok. And after that I didn't have anything serious, I would just see my piles of clothes like turn into dogs and walk around my room. Then things got worse. I decided to sleep in my bro's room because I was scared one night. Now I sleep there every night :/. Kind of embarassing. Anyways I felt a lot more comfortable, when I wake up, that I'm not alone. After a while my hallucinations got more scary. Once, I slept in the basement, and the T.V. is there about 10 feet in front of me. And I woke up to turn it on, and I saw someone walking towards my in the reflection through the T.V.! i was like woah! But I was ok...THEN a couple nights later, I woke up and saw a little girl sitting next to my couch. She looked me straight in the eye. And I could tell you every detail of her...but I had never seen her before. So I was very scared. And now to the sleep paralisis side of the things. This is where I'm scared. And by the way I have strong ESP, heard that might have something to do with this stuff. Anyways, whenever I have sleep paralisis now(probably once every 3 days) like I wake up, but my eyes are closed, so it forces me to watch my intensely scary dream. And, my old dream goes away, and I'm like locked in. I see this very scary face a while away, and then it gets closer and closer then POW its like right in my face for a couple seconds, its soo crystal clear, it looks realer than real. Remember this is all in my mind though as a dream, but it feel real. But I'm awake for it. And ive always feared that the little girl i see in my dream woudl talk. And last night she said "your room is my gateway" this girl is very demonic, her voice, her eyes. Whenever she looks at me its straight in the eyes, and my body gets all shaky and it's about as scary as a normal hallucination...even worse. So I'm scared...i wanna be able to sleep in my room and not worry. But I feel she is telling me a message and I need to decode it. And at night it feels like I know soem big secret affecting the world, but I dont know it. And I need too. That something big is happening and I'm involved. That I'm telling my life in a 3rd person perspective always. And as though someone is watching/monitoring me at all times. Does this girl mean something. Her face is soo real, almost realer than real. I'm scared. I'm tired of this. HELP ME!

If you want theres some more information about all this, I just summarized it.

Well, for a 13-year-old, Adam, you strike me as being fairly intelligent. Unfortunately I don't have any words of wisdom for your experiences. sad.gif

I do, however, wish you good health and better, nicer dreams. Are you seeing a psychologist? If not, that MAY be route to follow.

Best of luck to you kid! original.gif original.gif original.gif

Hi Adam. Welcome to the board. original.gif
I have OCD too, sucks don't it? disgust.gif
I'm not really sure what to tell you about your experiences.
Have you told your parents?
Have you changed any of your meds recently?
I would really recomend talking to someone in RL about this. Your doctor or school counsuler maybe.
Skiwi
Well, I'm just curious to know if any of this is normal. Should I be worried to a point? And the good thing is my Mom had something similar to this, so we can talk about it some which is always nice grin2.gif.

Well, I don't consider halucinations of any kind to be normal. laugh.gif
Skiwi
Haha tongue.gif , well. I did a little more research on sleep paralisis. I figured out that when it happens most people do hallucinate, and they can be very scary and evil. But the thing about me is....when I have sleep paralisis, I don't hallucinate, I just dream more. So some may think well that's no problem. But truly, everything stops, and I'm paralyzed, then my brain digs out my innermost fear, and makes it a dream with a message, and a little girls face. The little girl is going insane, and she always looks me straight in the eye. She reminds me of the girl from the Ring, if any of you guys have seen it. And when the face pops at me, its like when the girl opens the closet, to see her friend for a brief second, and that's what happens at the end, and it is crystal clear.

Also for people who do suffer from sleep paralisis, when it happens. Try to breath fast enough so that you can hear yourself. I found that very comforting.

With all this happening...I've had time to reflect and learn about myself(really, I have like 5 hours everynight) I've noticed lately my ESP has been getting strong, and whenever it does, I will hallucinate or something. When people say they have nothing to do with anything, I think some of mine might...because ESP is like a 6th sense. And it can see some future and its TRUE. So why can't hallucinations mean something important? And now I think I have a different goal in my life. Sure I make straight A's, and my parents think I will be some big math person and whatnot. I have an ability to get inside people, and really help them out. I want to exercise that and help people. But I can't find many opportunities. All I do now is just help people with their relationships and stuff. Even though they probably have no meaning, with me and my peers being in only 8th grade.

Skiwi ,
I think what you have discribed here is sleep paralisis .
SP cases appear to be caused when 1 of 2 pieces of the brain necisary for dreaming has an electrical hiccup .
The symptoms are usually a loss of movement , waking in a dream state , visions ,andlights .
The piece of the brain that plays up more noticably in cases of SP is the part which keeps us from acting out our dreams and hurting ourselves . It keeps functioning after the body has woken up and causes the actual paralisis. The other part though is responsible for the visual side effects . So the mind is still in a way dreaming when you wake up . Perhaps the reason your dreams seem more dream like, is because your visual response to S.P is more acute .
The little girl is quite likely your own subconcious reaction to the sleep paralisis.
Skiwi
But see, I'm confused, I understand your awake and in the dreaming state. But see, I awake while inside my dream, and my eyes are closed and I'm still dreaming. It's not hallucinating, because it is actually a dream. I dunno whatever, I sleept good the last two nights, because I had the radio on.

Yea, and the little girl probably is just a reaction...I never thought of it that way, because it happens everytime I have SP.
phenomenon
From what you describe my friend you go way and beyond sleep paralysis. Kismit said it perfectly when he described the electrical shorts that can sometimes leave a person in the woken state, but their brains functions respond as if in the dream state. This can cause slight visions and noises, temporary loss of movement and in some cases the feeling of a force that is generally causing their immobility.

I suggest you seek the advice of a doctor and hopefully you will be put on the right road and helped with what sounds like a very disturbing and possibly terrifying experience.
Skiwi
Hmm, so you don't think this is sleep paralisis....if you need any more info to judge if it is or not, just ask me.

One main thing I just kinda want to get clear on..this is another reason I started this thread. First off I know most of you probably think there may be some supernatural thing to stuff that happens, thats why your in this forum tongue.gif . But anyways, I just wanna make a check back to reality. The stuff that happens to me, and some other people. I really don't think we are being haunted, or those things we hear/see, mean something bad. It's our mind playing games with us, the only way we make it scary is by thinking about it. I mean, I highly doubt this little girl is some demonic person trying to get me to hail to satan or something. I mean it's all in the head. Sure some stuff may have a message. But I just want the re-assuranced that it's not like I'm being singled out, the only one with stuff like this happening, like some super-secret message is just coming to me....I dunno I just want re-assurance so I won't be scared tongue.gif.
Kismit
That's right Skiwi mostly our dreams are just the way our minds help us sort through the things in life we need to deal with. They arn't something to be afraid of, and there meanings are generally quite obvious if you try to connect them with things that are going on in your life .

Hello Adam,

The sleep paralysis that you mentioned can kill people. That sleep disorder has something to do with your pancreas.

Actually, this sleep disorder which will make your body paralyze...meaning Your wide awake but you can't moved your body, hands & feet, and this immobility will make you freeze...as if you can't moved...is called in our country as "Bangungot."

During the early 60s & 70s, many have thought that when people die in their sleep had a bangungot. And it is commonly said that, that person had a big snack before going to sleep. Thats why we are always told not to sleep in a full stomach.

It was only during the late 80s that they found out that people who died of this sleeping disorder had a pancreatic disorder.

That is why, I asked you as a brotherly advice that you seek a doctor that your parents trust & have your pancreas be check.

Perhaps this pancreatic sickness may...I'm not so sure, may produce some halucinating images at your eyes.

Lastly, please do tell me here when you have checked your pancreas. If there's no disorder then, tell me & I will advice you what to do with your sleeping paralysis.

Well first off what are your pancreas tongue.gif , second off, you said you had some advice for sleep paralisis...why dont you just tell me now while I wait to see a Doctor (if I do) eh? thumbsup.gif
Kismit
Skiwi a Dr . isn't a bad Idea . I don't want to come across as lecturing but little is known about sleep paralissis . The more people who go to there Doctor and have it checked the more we can learn about the condition in the long run . Go on and concider your self a pioneer in the field thumbsup.gif
phenomenon
Sorry Kismit, it's not like me to be so presumptuous (not too sure I spelt that correctly), thanks for putting me right. wink2.gif

Although we know little about sleep paralysis, we are now able to recognise certain sleep disorders and treat them. Not all sleep disorders are paranormal related and many are caused by certain functions of the brain. The hard part is trying to decifer which are natural sleep disorders and which are not. Like I said earlier, and like a few have mentioned, the doctor should be your first port of call.

Skiwi
Ok, I will consider going to a doctor disgust.gif . But anyways, I havn't had it in like 5 days!! Which is pretty cool. But I did notice one thing weird.....like if I have a bad dream or something. When I wake up, and close my eyes again...after like 5 seconds I can see the girl?? whats up with that, its like when you close your eyes and look into space, instead of seeeing weird geomtric shapes...I see the girl?? Is that my reaction to the bad dream? Once I start to see her , I mainly just see her face I open my eyes because I don't want to see the rest. So, if I'm able to do that does that mean I'm in a partial dreaming state? It's all weird. And surprisingly i think none of this is paranormal....i'm pretty sure it's just my mind bringing out my fears, in an after-dream state.

First off before I explain this my daily nightly pattern goes....go to bed at 9 30, then I wake up at like 12 30, and stay awake for about 10 minutes then go back to sleep, then ill wake up at like 1 30-2 after that, is when I would start having sleep paralisis or hallucinating. Its never in my first two sleeps. So if I wake up then go to sleep like 5 times in one night....im very likely to have one. And when I do, its normally the sleeps that only last 20 minutes.....so its not like it came from a very deep sleep...its more like a very quick sleep when it happens. very weird....
Kismit

possible catatonia which seems to be related to SP in some way . Do you ever have times through the day when you can't seem to stay awake ?
Skiwi
No I don't have times in the day where I feel I have to sleep...I think it's called narcolypsy. Tell me more about this catonia thing. And did any of you think the reason all this is happening is because I'm going through puberty and my hormones are crazy...that's what some people have told me(Mom) who had SP too.
Kismit
you may well be right I may have meant Narcoplexy . rolleyes.gif that's why a Dr. is better at diagnosing people .
Skiwi
Sorry man... But do you think all this stuff that happens to me in SP isnt all paranormal and it could just be my hormones acting up and bringing up my worst fear. I also have OCD, and that makes all this stuff 2x as bad. And also whats up with me seeing that girl after I'm awake from my dream when I close my eyes? Weird stuff, I have never done anything to disrupt spirits and my house is not haunted. Plus my mom had like the same thing but it wasn't a girl.
Ravenheart
I just saw a documentary recntly about sleep paralisis called The Entity.I found it pretty interesting.
Kismit
O.K. Skiwi give us a rundown on OCD . What is it?
Skiwi
It's very hard to explain but I'll try my best. It means Obsessive Compulsive Dis-Order. It's a brain problem. It makes you have a feeling you have to do everything perfect. Like if you write something down and you didnt make it look right you may have to fix it. Or whenever I walk into my bathroom I have to open my shower curtain just a little. Or like I'll be sleeping, and I have to look at a scary object a certain amount of times before I can sleep, ect. And it forces you to think about terrible things, like family members dying. And it's a terribly combination with SP. Thats just a brief summary on OCD there's much more.

Almost everyone has a little OCD..
ShadowKnight
I'm healthy as a horse. I think the problem with your Night-terrors
a based on a mental level rather than a physical level.
your mind works like a reciever. you can home in on these things
but can do nothing about them. if the things you see are real
(but no one thinks you tell the truth) then i suggest you go under
hypnosis. theres got to be a source for all the problem.
psychologist, family freinds, etc are all skeptical of what may be
happening to you. don't be suprised if you talk to dead people.

I very much doubt that these could be caused by some eye problem.

I think that's called hypnogogic sleep. We can dream when not in REM and it's when we're in a hypnogogic state. They are usually very short and are more like closed eye hallucinations. Once I had one where something large hit the earth and my view was from space.

Sounds a lot lie me... rolleyes.gif

I sugguest you see a doctor but for now find anything that could cause a "bad trip" and remove it or hide it from view. Also don't attempt to go to sleep till you are completely happy and relaxed. I've suffered from this quite a lot but now it's almost gone. I realized that some times it's not as scary and when I'm "vibrating" it's quite enjoyable though recently that has been getting scary.
So when you're dreaming where are you? Is your dream based on where you are? Is it just like you've got your eyes open but you can't move? That was most common for me. wacko.gif

Im 14 years old and I have a story similar to yours. One Saturday morning I woke up I was looking around my room,(not moving my head though) I decided to get up and I just couldn't move. I was so scared I was trying my best to move. Then I finally did move. I told my parents about my experience and they said it was probably just because I wasn't fully awake yet. But I just wanted to tell you that because the two stories do kind of compliement each other. Just my eyes were open. I have another experience that I will like to share with you guys. I woke up one morning about 2:00 A.M. and I saw this white head just staring at me(it kind of looked like a gray so I was freaked out alien.gif ). I was still sleepy but im kind of aggresive so I got up and started swinging on it. But what I found out was it was just my immagination and still being sleepy. I would say thats what yours is but if they keep talking to you and keep appearing I would say your house is haunted. So I would get out now lol.
Skiwi
Thanks guys...but I don't think I'm having any talks with dead people and my house is just haunted. It's all in my mind. But to be honest when I hallucinate, like if I wake up and might see a little girl for some odd reason...when it happens it just seems normal nothing odd. Then when I realize what happens I get scared. Also I think my SP is different from you guys. You say when you have it your eyes are open. Well when I have it, my eyes are still closed, but I'm awake...my eyelids are paralyzed...then my mind processes all these frieky things like in flashbacks all infront of me....my deepest fears. And it helps to wake up and see my bro right next to me adn the TV on. If ya'll have AIM tell me your sn so i can talk to you.
Chris_com28
So you hsve the seeing though eyelids effect? That's scary. It's really disturbing when you first have it and it's like you're never going to move. Once there was a beast at the head board of by bed. It was just so scary and one of the worst things ever apart from the time I was preached to. wacko.gif

QUOTE

Or it could just be your mind that is haunted. Still, both of them are as bad as each other.
It may in some way be related to your OCD as this disorder may cause
stress and I read that stress can cause SP.

I also discovered that reading about it can sometimes trigger one. This is interesting to me because it seems like a link between dreaming and OBEs, which are two very different things.
Skiwi
No I don't see through my eye lids. Let me break it down for you

Go to sleep

Dream

Wake up from dream mentally

Then notice my eyes won't open and body won't move

Still dreaming...but then all of a sudden my dream changes

To very scary things

So you see, when I have SP, I'm awake but I'm dreaming and I can't control what I dream....and these dreams are scary because I can't get out of them. And trust me they are just as bad as having your eyes opened and hallucinating ive had both. I like the idea that your mind is haunting..very clever. But anyways what is OBE's?
Skiwi
Hmm just last night I had SP four times. Wow but none of them were very scary and I didn't see a little girl or nothing. But why do I have them so many times. If i wanted too i could of had more that night. I just didnt go back to sleep. Btw i was experimented and i tried not to struggle and it felt like my whole body was being levitated, mainly my legs...pretty cool.
