Who do you think is the best guitar player of all time?
I think it is Jimi Hendrix. Others that I think are good are Duane Allman, Zakk Wylde, Jimmy Page, Slash, Angus Young, and Kirk Hammond.

Here's bucket head's site:
Buckethead LandHe has a couple of free downloads. Here's one.
Nottingham LaceHe's done several music scores for movies. He filled in for Slash for Guns and Roses last tour. Worked with everyone and there brother in the music industry. Did a lot with Primus.
His style ranges from Horror metal riffs to clasical to funk to Dance trance. Buckethead can play any style. He's the most original guitar player in the world today. Read about his Bio you'll flip how crazy it sounds. But he has one major cult following. And on all of his albums he plays every instrument.

I'd have to say Douglas Richardson is the mos phenomenal guitar player I have ever seen or heard in all my life. It's unfortunate that he had too many other character flaws to become well known.

Whilst all the people u have listed are great guitarists in terms of innovation an true genious there are only 2 guitarists that this can be between.
Jimmy Paige
Jimmi Hendrix
An hendrix wins it hands down because he was a true pioneer.

Can't do all time favorite unless of course you are discussing albums and then it would have to be The Shadows

Well like the song goes....(sort of) .....
there's 18,043 guitar pickers from Nashville.
And every one of them can play twice as better than I will....You know what else they say: Great guitar players are a dime a dozen. But Legends are the ones you like the best!
Does anyone remember Uli Jon Roth? Phenomenal....original (I think) Scorpions
guitar. I saw him once in Dallas, Tx.
Randy Rhodes :
But seriously: Have you ever watched a Rubix Cube contest?
Does anyone here know what a rubix cube is? When you get down to it, best guitarist
equals favorite guitarist...doesn't it. Unless you want to get into a technical discussion.

Clapton by far. But what is all this crap about guitar players, where would they be without the drums. Or how about the Banjo, now you have to have some real tallent to play that thing. I think the guitar is one of the lower instruments in the scheme of a band. You can sub about anything for a guitar, a piano is a much more impresive instrument. but thats just my thoughts... I play the drums...

I have to disagree with you there. I used to play the piano, that is, until I found the guitar. I would have to say that guitar is more impressive. And as for the banjo, it isn't the banjo, its how its played. A lot of people who play the banjo pluck the strings with their fingers, often very fast. You can do this on a guitar, but , obviously, the guitar is bigger in size then the banjo.
And I don't know how you can sub anything for a guitar, but I do know of a thing called the drum machine.

I really liked Oasis as well. Technically speaking I would have to say Randy Rhodes. The guy could play Beethoven on the guitar. It is hard to reign in a technical way when you can't even read music...and Jimi...as much as I love him...couldn't. He wasn't that remarkable 'live' either. Well, sometimes he was.

Jasu , I have a piano that you can play the guitar on, and you can sub almost any string instrument for a guitar, im not saying the guitar is not important at all, but most people just look at the guitar and thats it, when it is only maybe a fifth of how the band sounds. Now back to the issue of best player, i vote Claptin.

Yes, I agree with you there. Most people either look at the guitar or lead singer ( sometimes the lead singer playes the guitar) and most people recognize the band with that person, when the best player may very well be the drummer. If you don't believe me, look at the band Blink 182. When some people think of Blink 182, they see Tom, the guitarist, or even Mark, the bassist, when, in my opinion, Travis the drummer, is the best person playing an instrument. And the reason you can sub a piano for guitar is because they are both string instruments. You can use a piano to tune the strings of a guitar and a guitar to tune a few of the strings of the piano (the piano can play a larger scale of notes then the guitar).

I just noticed this: Joe Satriani isn't on here. He is very good, and he taught Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett. And now that I've done some good research, I can say that Michael Angelo Batio is the best guitarist. I saw a video of him doing his song, "No Boundaries", and it was amazing. And people like to point out that Hendrix played a right-handed guitar when he was left handed. Well Batio plays a double guitar. Not like the kind Page is know for, but one that is side to side, so that he plays both of them at the same time. He also had a Quad-guitar (four guitars in one), but is was stolen from him after his second show in El Paso, Texas.
This is his site, with a picture of the Quad-guitar.

Dont you mean Kirk Hammett of metallica instead of Kirk Hammond? I believe that this is a matter of opinion and that all of these above should be considered "the best of the best" and nothing more. All of the styles are different which stops comparrisons from being valid. They all are the best guitar players of all time ... Kirk Hammett is just better at kicking ass than the rest

ooooo...this is a real can of worms!
If you're talking technique you gotta be sayin Satriani/Vai/Malsteem/Eric Johnson/Hammet/EVH/Bert Jansch/Andy McKee/Tommy Emmanuel (doubt anyones heard of this guy, find the dude on youtube he is by far the most gifted guy I've ever seen with a guitar but most of his music sucks, to hillbilly for me)
If your talking feeling/passion look no further than Peter Green/Hendrix/Gilmour/Robert Johnson/Kelly Joe Phelps.

Al Di Meola without a doubt..You really have to see him play to really get how fast and clear he is..And even then you shake your head in disbelief. It's mind blowing..

QUOTE
Guitar historian Robert Lynch states: "In the history of the electric guitar, no one figure has done more to advance the instrument in a purely technical manner than Mr. Di Meola. His total command of the various styles and scales is simply mind boggling. I feel privileged to have been able to study his work all these years."
WikiBest rock guitarist goes to Edward Lodewijk Van Halen...It's the sheer ease that he screams through the frets that separates him from the rest...But even the mighty Eddie is pale compared to Mr. Di Meola.
Best bassist of any genre'
easily goes to Stanley Clark (Return to Forever with Chick Corea. Other notable (recording/touring) project involvements are: (1979) Jeff Beck, (1980) Keith Richards’ New Barbarians, (1981) Clarke/Duke Project with George Duke, (1989) Animal Logic with Stuart Copeland, (1993-94) The Superband with Larry Carlton, Billy Cobham, Najee & Deron Johnson, (1995) The Rite of Strings with Jean-Luc Ponty and Al Di Meola and (1999) Vertu’ with Lenny White.. Stanley also went and invented two new instruments: the piccolo bass and the tenor bass...
Best
rock bassist goes to Chris Squire of Yes.
