I got the following thismorning

Hello,

This is extremely important information about Email and Virii. This affects all of your Email services, including your ISP and any other service providers you use.

A new virus has been spreading. It is sent as an encrypted ZIP file, and requires you to enter in a password. In some cases the virus poses as a message from your Internet provider and includes information about your domain.

One such example is:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear user of e-mail server "YourDomain.com",

Your E-mail account has been temporarily disabled because of unauthorized access.

Further details can be obtained from attached file.

For security reasons attached file is password protected. The password is "80314".

Have a good day,
The Yourdomain.com team http://www.yourdomain.com/
----------------------------------------------------------------

** THIS MESSAGE IS BOGUS. DO NOT OPEN THE FILE ATTACHMENT, IT IS A VIRUS. **

Because the virus is sent as a password protected zip file, anti-virus software on our mail system and your computer may not be able to detect it. This is especially dangerous because many users will see the message and be fooled into thinking it is a legitimate message.

As always, be careful of opening any file attachments you receive in Email.

This may be a separate virus, but I also got similar emails titled "Your bill" and "Your order", but I was smart enough to delete them w/o opening them because I didn't recognize the sending address. If you see these emails, DO NOT open them. I thought I would warn you.

I got a variation of the same message this morning, a zipped file saying it contained infomation (info.zip) on how to rid my computer of a virus, as some of this particular company's clients had complained viruses had been sent from my computer.

My ISP advised me of this yesterday:

Security Updates
Beware of a fraudulent virus alert email targetting mydomain members (W32.Beagle.J@mm)

March 3, 2004

How are you affected?

We would like to advise mydomain members of a potential security issue that has been discovered.

Recently, an email has been sent to some mydomain customers requesting read an attachment. This email was NOT sent by mydomain and we do not validate any of its content.

If you open the attachment within this email, a "trojan horse" will be installed on your computer (Windows users only). This trojan horse does not cause initial harm but it will create a port that will make your computer vulnerable to future virus attacks.

Below is a sample of the non-mydomain email that was sent to mydomain customers:

From: support@mydomain.CA [mailto:support@mydomain.CA]
Sent: Wednesday, March 03, 2004 7:53 AM
To: mydomain MEMBER@mydomain.CA
Subject: Notify about using the e-mail account.

Dear user of mydomain.CA gateway e-mail server, Your e-mail account has been temporary disabled because of unauthorized access.

Please, read the attach for further details.

Attached file protected with the password for security reasons. Password is 77113.

Kind regards,
The mydomain.CA team

What should you do?

If you have received the above email, please do not click on the link but rather delete the email from your inbox immediately. If you have already clicked on the link, please follow the procedures for the W32.Beagle.J@mm worm outlined on the Symantec site to delete this trojan from your computer.
