I'm at a loss on this one and wondered if anyone could help...

I received an email this morning from a virus checker at a company someone I know works at, saying I had sent him an email with an attachment (readme.zip) that contained a virus.

I've now twice checked my computer for viruses and found nothing but that's not the most perculiar thing, I don't actually have this persons email address, I do now, but only because his email was in the message sent by the virus checker, but it's not in my address book and I've never sent him an email before.

Anyone know how this could have happened? dontgetit.gif

Yeah I've had this kind of problem with Mydoom recently...

I went on a site that scans your computer online, I'll try to get the address again for you.

That would be appreciated, cheers

Any self respecting pc user who has the slightest care for his/her pc should have an up to date anti-virus installed which is updated regularly for all the latest virus definitions.

Some of these new viruses are sending themselves to everyone in a persons address book...and so on and so on.

As for this virus checker sending you you an email, this is probably due to your friend having your address in his book.I have had many warnings regarding emails I have apparently sent to one of my own email address's.These viruses are a pain in the arse and seem to get stronger with every new one that rears its ugly head.

Online checking is a good idea for those of you who have no protection, but then again, in todays world that would be simply crazy. The definitions they use online are freely available to users for use on their own pc with their chosen anti-virus software.

Hope someday to see one of these pathetic little virus writers get what he/she deserves.

I use my pc at work which uses sophos anti-virus and it updates and checks for virus every day so I'm ok on that side of things.

Thanks for the explanation, my friend may well have my email but it was his virus checker that accused me of sending him a virus. I can be pretty sure his is ok and up to date as he is at work aswell for the Daily Telegraph.
