Harriet Reed
When Life rushes upon you like a bicycle race
Are you the person who dives into head-first
And experiences all of it at once in a moment?
Or do you shrink from the riders and keep yourself safe
As the rattling wheels and frames speed past?

When Death comes calling
Or knocking at your door
Do you run? Do you hide
In a tangle of medicines and technology
Before he snatches you from your crutches and supports?
Or do you face him? Gaze into his
Sunken eyes and withered face,
Extend your hand and say 'I am ready'?

Not bad at all for a spontaneous composition. thumbsup.gif
Extinction
I like it even though it's kind of random.

I'm glad you guys liked it. The idea was in itself really random - I was thinking about what I could put down for my personal statement and wrote 'When death comes calling do you face it or flee it?' and then I built the verse about death around that. The verse about life was a sort of contrast and comparing it to a bicycle race was based on a quote from a film. Can't remember the name of the film, but that's where it came from!
