Who is Maitreya?
Ancient World Wonders
QUOTE
Under Maitreya's inspiration, humanity itself will make the required changes and create a saner and more just world for all.

IMO, this Maitreya person will stir up more trouble than compromise. In this day and age, war rages between religions and not one religious icon can bound them together; others have been killed for less than what he's doing. People have their believes and very rarely have certain individuals altered the beliefs of others. Jesus altered many perspectives, however, at that point in time the Jews had little to belief in during Roman occupation and rule. Nowaday, religion has become nothing more than an excuse to strike out against our fellow person: "You insult my beliefs I have the right according to my religion to beat you to death;" responses like this are wide spread these days. He has a tough road to ahead of him IMO.

rolleyes.gif O my Lord (no one), this is just to foolish to believe. I find it hard to believe this Maitreya fella stuff, one man and some followers are going to change the world and show us how to be as Gods, just doesent fly with me. For one thing I must point out about him, it says he is the brother of "The Buddha" , how can this be?There teachings are totally opposite of what Buddha taught, for one he walks around performing miricles to get believers, thats actually something Buddha forbid to anyone who followed the path and him, because its almost a sure what to get followers.

An ordained disciple must not boast of any superhuman perfection.
The disciple who with evil intent
and from covetousness boasts of a superhuman perfection,
be it celestial visions or miracles,
is no longer a disciple of the Sakyamuni. [13]

"I forbid you, O bhikkhus,
to employ any spells or supplications,
for they are useless,
since the law of karma governs all things.
He who attempts to perform miracles
has not understood the doctrine of the Tathagata

This guy is supposedly appearing places and making blessed water and fountains of youth and healing people and ect, when like I said went against what Buddha who is said to be his brother taught. Showing people miricles or boasting about in the crowd your supernatural abilities is an almost sure way to have anyone follow you; Buddha thought this was also hindering freewill, so he just preaches the Dharma and let the person chose, without showing miricles.

But it is said that a future Buddha will appear named Maitreya, and he would be fat, but this guys seems to be able to change his appearance at will. Right.........

Think about:

Many times have you heard Me say that My Coming
means change.
Specifically, the greatest change will be in the hearts
and minds of men, for My Return among you is a sign that
men are ready to receive new life.
That New Life for men do I bring in abundance.
On all the planes this Life will flow, reaching the hearts
and souls and bodies of men, bringing them nearer to the
Source of Life Itself.
My task will be to channel those Waters of Life through
you.

The World Teacher?
Who is Maitreya?

My favorite radio talk show host Thom Hartmann plays this advertisement almost ad infinitum for Maitreya, the "world teacher." (I listen to him out here in Milwaukee via webstream.) The ad is really quite a syrupy, lovie-dovie, to the point of being disgusting. Yeeks.

Anyway, my revulsion of the ad aside, between our pagans, the one Muslim creationist, our Christians, new ageists, other spiritually centered people, and of course our skeptics on this board, I am interested in getting your opinions about this Maitreya guy and his theology – if you can call it that.

What from the site, Maitreya is syncretic to your belief system? What is erroneous or contradictory?

If in oppostion, please cite why you are correct and why Maitreya is wrong. Please cite your criteria in determining so.

QUOTE
Many now expect the return of their awaited Teacher, whether they call him the Christ, Messiah, the fifth Buddha, Krishna, or the Imam Mahdi. Millions now know that the Teacher who fulfills all these expectations is already living among us.

Maitreya, the World Teacher, has not come alone, but with a group of wise Teachers who have long guided humanity from behind the scenes.

They are returning to the everyday world to help us solve our most critical global problems. Maitreya is not a religious leader, but an educator in the broadest sense.

He is here to inspire us to create a new era based on sharing and justice, so that all may have the basic necessities of life: food, shelter, health care, and education.

His open mission in the world is about to begin. As Maitreya himself has said: 'Soon, now very soon, you will see my face and hear my words.'

I look forward to your insights and observations.

(PS. For the record, I am not "shopping" for religion. Thanks.)

Maitreya is just a title, it means you've reached a certain level of understanding/enlightenment some call Buddahood (sp?)

There is a guy 14 miles from me who is called Maitreya, he built a cool meditation garden. You get to use the title to denote your 'evolved state'. I think it's a bit egoist, also it forgets that there is NO ultimate state because we are forever growing, learning, expanding etc. .....

I don't believe in hierarchy, no place for it in the New Age wink2.gif Everyone is supposed to be equal. I suppose you could call him a 'teacher', but if he's a good one then he'll remember he is also a learner at all times too.

This sort of thing rubs me up the wrong way for some reason wacko.gif

Exactly! thumbsup.gif

Maitreya is nothing else but a title that any of the many Pratyeka-Buddhas from Nirvana can obtain.

If one of these Pratyeka-Buddhas decides to abandon the happiness of Nirvana and thus to follow the eightfold path of compassion, he then becomes a Buddha Mayitreya!

I heard about this guy. I was going to make a thread, but i see someone else did it.

It's weird how he(the Maitreya) only comes out in pictures that have Benjamin Creme in it.
