They are by Anne Mcaffery but Todd Mcaffery started writing them too. I think I misspelled their last name though. blush.gif

I finally have Cross Stitch by Diana Galbalden! I haven't started it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Still plowing my way through Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell. About half-way. It's alright but I don't know how to rate it. 6-7 out of 10 maybe....

Once you get through the first 5 Chapters, I dare you to put it down. Or better still I dare you to try and avoid talking with a Scottish accent. original.gif

Just finished, 'The Davinci code.' Good book, well written highly suspensful but I guessed who the Teacher was pretty early on cool.gif

Currenlty finishing ' Dragonflys in Amber ' which is the follow up book to 'Cross Stitch, ' and is shaping up to be just as action packed. And 'A history of Witchcraft,' very well researched it's a pity the chapters couldn't have been extended into books on their own.

I just finished reading Jarka Ruuhs the first book in the High Druid of Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks and will hopefully have Tanquel the second book in this trilogy later tody.

Awww, it took me ages to work it out because I'd dismissed who it was due to comments like "I'll be free of him forever" and whatnot.

I think it's time for this thread's revival.... I'm always looking for new ideas on books to read, and this was a good thread to discuss various books that members liked or disliked.

I just finished reading The Last Juror by John Grisham. It was good but it could have been shorter. For a long while you're wondering what the point of anything is, and you don't actually get to the point of the story until the last 50 pages or so. It was entertaining, but it could have been structured better.

I just finished reading The Shining by Stephen King. It was fantastic, I loved it. I really liked the way it was written, the suspense was good and the plot was excellent. Because I enjoyed it so much, I asked for 'Salems Lot fro Christmas, and my mum gave it to me today as an early present grin2.gif

Salems Lot. This has been redone with about 90 extra pages added.

I killed Digital Fortress by Dan Brown for the 4th time this year yesterday. Great read, well worth my time. All his books are so well written it's a buffet of mind food.

Digital Fortress is about the NSA having a massive super computer that can break any single line of code given to it using insanely fast processors to turn it around. Till one of the code breakers that used to work for the NSA was fired and he wants revenge. He doesn't agree with the ethics of being able to read anybody's e-mail at any time. So he sets out to make the unbreakable code. He puts it up on his website, only... he has the passkey to open it. NSA is freaking. Will his code work?

I haven't read the DaVinci Code yet, and it's killing me! It's one of the few things I actually asked for Christmas, so I hope I get it. I have nothing to read right now. tongue.gif

I just finished reading this book for health class called Breathing Underwater. I never thought I would enjoy a book that I had to read for school as much as I did this book. It's definately one of my fav's now.

Now, I'm reading the first book in a trilogy called Inheritance. First book is called Eragon. Second is called Eldest. The third book should be out sometime next year. But the author, Christopher Paolini, was only 15 when he started writing the first book. He's like 19 now. But anyways, I'm about 160 pages into Eragon and damn this is an amazing book! This kid has some real talent. Anyone who enjoys adventure/fantasies like LotR will definately love this!

^Sounds good Shake, I shall go have a look at my local book-store!

I have just started the fifth book in The Wheel of Time series, The fires of Heavan and I am already getting six and seven for Christmas. I had always thought about starting the series but never got around to it because I knew if I purchased the first one I would end up buyng the eleven currently available. Which I am already just about half-way through and I only started a month ago.

^^Good series. I'm just finishing book six for the (something like) fourth time through - I started reading it way back when only four books were out, so by the time Jordan would release a new book, I'd forgotten most of what had happened before.

Enjoy Aztec thumbsup.gif THough I would say that unfortunately the best is behind you. It's still a good read, but that later books just don't live up to their precessors (though my brother tells me good things about book 11, which I'll read when I refamiliarize myself with the rest of the books in the series yes.gif).

Regards, PA

Edit: Damn yele, getting your post in before me mad.gif Now my ^^doesn't work properly crying.gif

"The Broker" by John Grisham.
Red-eye Dragoon
I've recently finished reading "Artemis Fowl : The Opal Deception" by Eoin Colfer. Its the fourth book in the series, starts off where the last one left. In the last book, the young criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl had his mind wiped for any memories of the People (fairies), this also erased any goodness that he learned, scince then he has reverted to his criminal lifestyle.
An old nemisis of his; who has spent the last year in a self-induced coma, plotting revenge on those who foiled her plot to destroy the LEP ; has now escaped and Artemis is number one on her kill list... Its an awsome book, I give it 5/5 double thumbs up. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I've also finished reading "The Romanov Prophecy" by Steve Berry. Its a pretty intense thriller, though not as good as some of Dan Brown's novels. It involves Russian history, including the murder of the Romanov family in the early 1900's, ( the actual story takes place in present times). Its about an American lawyer, Miles Lord, who is working on the Tsarist Comission, his job is to investigate the backgrounds of the candidates (who are to be elected as the next Tsar). He ends up uncovering a rather large secret... 4/5 double thumbs thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

... and a few dozen short stories and poems.

I'm currently in the middle of reading The Road to Mars by Eric Idle. (Who just happens to be my fav Monty Python member.) Its about an android named Carlton who is trying to figure out comedy and is writing a thesis about it while traveling with two comedians named Alex and Lewis who inadvertently get caught up in a terrorist plot agaisnt Mars while they travel the solar system looking for gigs. I love this book so far. Its got comedy, adventure, action, and a few lines from Monty Python's Flying Circus and other MP stuff in the mix too. What's not to love? Even if you arent a Monty Python nut, I think you'd find this book enjoyable. Well, Im off to finish it.

As did I, it was pretty cool yes.gif
Mr Ed
I have read several of those Dan Brown books and I now dislike them. He uses the same template plot, well pretty much, for all of his books.

Young European (or just tanned) woman with flowing dark brown hair meets a 40 year old to middle aged proffessor or expert and they work together, digital fortress being different from this though, I thought that was his best one because it had a different plot.

I started on that book because I had nothing else to read and found it pretty violent, straight off dontgetit.gif . I moved on...

I finally got around to reading this brilliant series by Diana Gabaldon called Outlander. I can't remember all the titles (because it's actually been a while since I read them) but the first is Crosstitch. I loved them all. It's an historical romance which probably doesn't sound too appealing but it's funny and full of action and Diana Gabaldon has a really addictive style of writing. Kismit recomended the series months ago and was very insistent that it was a great series.

Right now I'm reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. My brother and I, not being from the states, have....acquired a copy of the Musical version (because there's no hope of seeing it first hand sad.gif ) and are now addicted to it, I'm afraid. Thus, we got the book out to help with understanding. Like why there is a (really really cool) dragon rigged up in the ceiling and why the wicked witch is of the West and why Glinda is of the North. I'm really enjoying it. 7 out of 10 I think, though I'm kind of biased towards it, heh.

I am currently reading two books, the first being 'A Clockwork Orange' by Anthony Burgess. This is a very hard book to read only for the reason of all the slang that is used. There's probably an average of 3 different slang words per sentence, so half the time you're trying to piece together what that word means. But all in all it's pretty good, besides that. original.gif

The other one, which I started last night and will probably finish this evening is called 'Marley and Me' by John Grogan. It is an adorable book, I've barely been able to put it down. This dog is such a sweetie and an absolute terror at the same time! A must-read for any dog lovers. original.gif

Am currently reading 'Drums of Autmn' the fourth book in the Outlander series by D. Gabolden .
Just finished Reading 'Voyager' the third book in the Outlander series ,and before that I read 'Cross Stitch ' the first book in the series and by far Dianna Gabolden's penultimate literary triumph totally worth the full 5 thumbs up .

Diana Gabaldon is excellent for us highlanders lol

I am about to dig into the newest book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

right now..The Midnight Cafe Laurell K.Hamilton
Mr. Fahrenheit
I found an old copy of Carrie in the attic. The more I read the more I realize how much the movie murdered this gem. I am also a Dave Barry fan, currently rereading "Dave Barry In Cyberspace".

I'm being an idiot and reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the millionth 12th, or so time. Right after reading the sixth. I think I'm going to plow through the series again for kicks.

Some new stuff I've read, though, is the DaVinci Code, and Angels and Demons. Good stuff. I really liked them. And its been a while since I've read books that have sucked me in as much as Harry.

i am reading the Da Vinchi Code. great book. really interesting, it really makes you think about things anyone else read it...if so what did you think ?

Enoch The Ethiopian. by Indus Khamit Kush. Lost prophet of the Bible, Enoch, has been preserved only in Ethiopia. This new book is an excellent study of the Holy One. Chapters include The stolen legacy of the Bible, Enoch's lineage, African Origins of Man, Ethiopian Church canonization of Enoch, Enoch's New Testament legacy and the African origins of the Hebrew....... check it out. thumbsup.gif rofl.gif

What's it about, nativechick? Did you like it?

I haven't read anything in ages because I've got too much reading for lectures sad.gif. Though, I'm slowly getting through Magician by Raymond E. Feist which seems okay so far, the his writing style seems a bit funny.

Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings. After reading the entire Wheel of Time series I have really gotten back into fantasy novels!
Purplos
I just finished Tanya Huff's "Blood Pact" which I found very entertaining even though I hadn't read the first 3 in the series, though the main character got annoying after a while - she was too rigid.

Now, I'm on to Charles de Lint's "Spiritwalk," on the recommendation that he is the king of contemporary fantasy. The book is interesting but reads like a collection of short stories instead of a continuous flowing piece.
Boff
I'm currently reading Singapore Burning and World Religions right now original.gif.

'Bury my heart at wounded knee' by Dee Brown, an impartial account of the recent history of the Native Americans, and how the American government cheated them.
