| The society was organized at Pulaski, Giles County, Tennessee, in June, 1866. It was originally designed as a diversion for young men, to help relieve the dulness immediately following the Civil War. It had been reported that the decision for a name occurred during the society's second meeting. The founder's wished to use the name "Kukloi" from the Greek word kuklos, meaning a band or circle. Someone else in the group suggested Ku Klux, and Klan was added to complete the alliteration. |
I was always taught that the founder of the ku klux klan was Scottish, in fact was also from the city of Glasgow, where i am from, (which is an embarrassment) an emigrated to america,, i had wondered where the ku klux part came from. Though i think the Klan part must have been just a different spelling of clan as in scottish clan.
Dont know of this was right or if any of the rest of you were taught that in school. If so or not let me know.

Wun,
From what I can find I the Klan didn’t originate from Scotland, however the cross burning they perform did.
Here's the Straight Dope on cross burning.
Wikipedia has some more details about the history of the KKK.

| It seems the men who founded the original Klan were tossing out ideas for a name when somebody came up with kukloi, plural of the Greek kuklos, circle. Somebody else had the bright idea of twisting kuklos into Ku Klux. Klan was added later for alliteration, and they spelled it with a K rather than a C so as not to confuse the rank and file. |

About the Illuminati website, you could go to www.archive.org/web/web.php and type in their former web address to find cached copies of their website through the years.

i was always interested in the freemasons. i always heard that they wore ridiculous costumes, assumed fake names, and carried ceremonial swords. my grandfather was a woodman of the world, my uncle is a knight of columbus, and i think my father is an ex-klucker. not that im proud of that, or know it for sure, just saying.

You could always start your own secret society.
