wiki said all attempts failed but two of them the bodies were never found

how is this connected to ancient mysteries or alternative history?? could anyone explain??
suggest moving to appropriate forum.

Well considering the OP is speculating about alternate views / possibilities on a historic event, I suppose it could go under "Alternative History" ?

He is not speculating, he is asking questions about what happened to them.

Hm guess so. Well I'll ask the original poster:

What exactly made you ask that question, did you come across any material that suggest such a thing? Or do you have any personal theories about such a thing, and if so can you elaborate a little?

I'm really not sure where to put this thread to be honest =) Guess the "True Crimes" section would be most appropriate one considering this is about criminal and factual events. Oh well I'll move it over there for now as it is about "criminal mysteries" as well.

Sorry my mistake.it was the wrong forum I guess.I`m from the north of England
and this particullar escape has kept my interest since I saw the film that Clint Eastwood
played the main role.I was under the impression from information gained all 3 drowned
although former Alkatraz convict and auther Darwin Coon maintains all 3 made it to the
mainland and are still alive living in Florida. Can anyone else put forward any details ?
Thanks for replies.

Sorry, I wouldnt have any further information but if you've ever driven over the golden gate bridge and looked over and seen how close Alcatraz actually is to land you would see and probably feel that it was atleast possible that they made it. The cold icy waters of San Francisco Bay most likely got them is what most people think. I'm pretty sure swimmers have made the swim recently.
IMO if they could have stayed dry they could have easily made it. No one can conclude that they drowned without bodies, its all speculation... I guess all we have is our own opinions on this one. It does seem like someone would have heard from one of the men but you never know.
The tour of Alcatraz is pretty cool if you ever make it to the states, San Francisco is fun to visit at the very least :-)

Thanks for the welcome goalienan. From the you tube videos, and the historians views including
the police views and reports, there was`nt enough consideration given to the raft or floatation
device they used.I find it remarkable that they acheived and got as far as they did with the
evidence that is actually known.By now,the real truth will never be known.

I've never heard of any of them making it, and if they did make it, they've all done a GREAT job at keeping it a secret.

Apologies to anyone who has misunderstood. In many circles
This happening is classed as an unexplained mystery.Which
Section it really does belong to is I`m sure up to the moderators.
I was hoping for more replies,as it took place in the US itself
And is a fairly modern occurance.

No apologies needed. We all goof on occasion. rolleyes.gif

An arial photo of Alcatraz makes anyone who has not been to Frisco think anyone could, or would have a pretty good chance of making it. The "Spoonful Gang" never made it half way. There have been a few recreations of their infamous escape attempt and all have proven that it would have beeb completely impossible to make the mainland.

It is not the sharks that occasionly appear in the bay, it is, and always has been, the current. The SF Bay current is very fickle, the surface current will flow one way, several yards down it flows in another direction. The make-shift raft made from weather coats could not have stayed inflated for very long, none of the men could swim in such conditions, "IF" they could swim at all. Odds of them making it would have been several hundred thousand to three (hey we have to give the guys some credit for thinking they could do it in the first place tongue.gif ).

I'm a native Californian now living in Oklahoma (give me a tornado over an earthquake any day wink2.gif and Frisco is my favorite city. A fantastic place to visit, just too expensive to live in disgust.gif .

It`s all speculation I guess,as said before. From what I`ve read, don`t know about West or Morris
but the Anglin`s were excellent swimmers. No matter how a good a swimmer you are,the cold and
the ebb tides and currents.I woud`nt fancy it,some say West did`nt.The `key`to the whole business once they were im the water was the
floatation device standing up to a few killometers of paddling.Amazing they got as far as they did.
