Police: Woman Tracked Down Driver Who Hit Child
DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. -- A 5-year-old boy was about to get on his school bus Thursday morning when he was hit by a passing car.
Although the boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be OK, one woman made it her mission to track down the man who hit the child and drove off.
DeShan Fishel had just dropped her own child off at school when she saw the hit and run driver speed away and went after him.
“I could see him on the road, his book bag, you know, went up into the air,” said Fishel. “It just really upset me that he was going to get away with hitting this kid and not stopping.”

Fishel said she followed the car and she called 911. She said the driver never slowed down and ran a stop sign before turning onto Highway 9 and crashing into a ditch.
“And that’s when I pulled up behind him and jumped out and told him he wasn’t going anywhere,” said Fishel.
Gary Hoosline, 19, was the man behind the wheel, authorities said. Fishel said Hoosline was speechless and she held him until police arrived a few minutes later.
“Finally my adrenalin slowed down and I realized I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, he could have…there’s no telling what he could have done to me.’ But at that moment, I just didn’t think about that. I was thinking about that little kid,” said Fishel.
Hoosline was arrested and charged with hit and run. Without Fishel’s help, the Dawson County sheriff said he might still be on the run.
“She’s our hero because we don’t know if we could have been able to catch him if not for her quick thinking and her determination to make sure he didn’t leave,” said Lt. Tony Wooten with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.
Hoosline has been released from jail on $1,200 bond. No court date has been set.
The child, Omar Gomez, has a broken leg but will be OK.

A little to close to home for me and mine. We drive through this area everyday. My sister lives less than 2 miles from the scene of the accident. This woman is a hero to me and I applaud her actions. I hope this young man takes this as a wake up call to change his driving habits. Because instead of this little boy surviving it could have easily went the other way. People remember school buses mean kids slow down and follow the rules of the road. I must be getting a bit touched in the head. I miss read the portion of the article about the bond, I read $12,000 not $1,200. That is no where near enough. I do apologize for my reading error sorry....
