Wow...I've never seen that before. Strange, since I have been to West Hartford. But good pictures, they look very interesting. Looks a bit like a crocodile. I agree, great find!

Well I've never seen anything like that either.
And I spent the first 30 years of my life in West Hartford, right around there.
It's not at all remote, and it's not at all deep. It's in one of most developed and used areas of town. We're probably looking at floating garbage, something in a plastic flotation toy.

Very nice, the most probable explanation. Although it would be cool to see a mutant croc or other strange creature living in it, we are not talking about the Loch Ness. If it was more rural, I might say something, but last time I checked the lake wasn't all too clean, either, was it?

Hehe, it looks like a cross between a hippo and a croc. None of which I'm guessing are in conneticut. For a minute I got excited and thought it was in Harford Co. in MD not Hartford.....just more evidence nothing neat happens here.

i heard tell once that dead logs rotting at the bottom of the lake can surface do to the gases and look like that. not sayin gthat is what it is. but notice how the dorsal spines (if that is what they are) dont undulate? they are the same fixed position. still a great find though. thanks for sharing.

Cool pictures, good find. What it is; I have no idea, but it looks interesting. Too bad it wasn't caught on video, as you can learn a lot by observing how things move.
Good Journey.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/strange...21&catid=82Just a little googled news to supplement the pics.
Interesting, but likely some kind of wooden structure doing the natural broaching and sinking that wood often does as it rots.

Is this the place? It does not look like a great place for a cryptid to hide. My vote is on toy after one of the pics seems to have a red eye.
Seems to be quite a few water bodies. Do they all connect to that river?

There are very few crocodiles in West Hartford, and the lake is way too shallow for sturgeon.
There is, however, a fair amount of garbage in it.

I never thought I'd see the day that a town bordering my hometown would be discussed anywhere on this site, let alone in the cryptids page.
I was taking a walk at that reservoir 2 weekends ago on a visit home (there's some beautiful woods on the property, and they're open to the public for "hiking"). I've done that probably 5 times in the past couple years.
This is total garbage. I don't know what's in there - hell, it probably IS garbage - but it's definitely not some giant monster.

i dont think garbage would look like that in that shape. wouldnt it just sink?
most likely an out of place sturgeon

Take a plastic alligator shaped flotation device (like my kids used to have), put a hole in it and sink it halfway.
There's your monster.

look im not rejecting your explanation, but im not making any incredible theories. it resembles a lake sturgeon, not a monster. however you may be right.
i think that someone would identify a plastic alligator toy before a sturgeon

All she had to do was wade out to it and haul it into shore.
But then there'd be no story.

Looks like a slightly submerged hippo eating an alligator.
