OK, this may sound stupid as I don't know much about the subject, but do whales drop their placenta after birth? Or is the process of birth too dissimilar from other mammals? It may be that some of these blobs could be that, but after a short bit of research I could find no information on it, as whale births are rarely seen or documented. I would however, imagine if a whale did discharge it's placenta after birth that it would be a veritable smorgasbord for other aquatic animals thereby making the possibility of it reaching shore rather slim. As I said, it may sound like a stupid question, but I figured I would ask anyway.

Nice thinking out of the box there

The placenta though would be fairly small in size? I imagine such a protein rich substance would be scavenged very quickly as well.
Certainly a good call for smaller specimens.
This is what a humback placenta looks like

Definitly a possibility.
