Remeber me posting about people hearing their names called?
This is reported quite frequently in allegedly haunted areas and homes. I have experienced it myself in my old home, and it's very odd indeed.........

Anyhoo, found this little article about name-callers and thought I would post it up for you ~

'Back in the late 1970's, I was 19 years old and living in my family's home. One afternoon while everyone was at work, I decided to take a bath. The bathtub was always a very relaxing place for me. It was an old one that had glass block windows around the back an left side of it. As I lay there quietly I suddenly heard my name whispered very loudly in my left ear! This scared me to death, I jumped out of the tub as fast as I could and ran naked out of the bathroom and to the opposite end of the house. I was alone in the house and terrified. The ear I heard the "whisper" in (it was really loud, almost not in the whisper category) was on the side by the window. That window was very thick glass block and was not made to open, in fact, it was a good sound insulator.
My mother returned home from work a few long hours later and I told her what had happened. She had a strange look on her face and then told me a story she had never told me before.
Back when she and my father first bought our house in the early 1950's, she had walked out to the rural mailbox to get the mail. The house sits back off the street in a neighbourhood that was made up of horse pastures, woods, and homes on lots of an acre or larger.
They really hadn't developed relationships with any of the few neighbours they had yet. As she reached the mailbox, she heard someone calling her name. She looked around and saw no one. Her name continued to be called from some unknown source, and she could not determine if it was a man or woman calling her name. She thought someone was playing a trick on her, so she searched for the prankster without luck. After a while, the name calling stopped and she went into the house.
My mother never found out who was calling her name. She did say that whoever it was must have known her because they were calling her "Jo Ann". That is her middle name, and that is what family and friends have always called her. A stranger would have called her by her first name.
Another interesting titbit about our bathroom. When my brother was about three, he was taking a bath and my mother had stepped out of the bathroom for a minute or two. When she returned, he was pointing at the corner opposite the bathtub saying "there was a lady there smiling at me". Surprised, my mother asked him what he had seen and he told her a lady was standing there looking at him and went away when my mother entered the room.
Our house was always full of strange noises, shadows, smells. I suppose it could be called mildly haunted. My mother still lives there and I still see shadows moving about on occasion. However, we haven't heard our name callers since.'

Crikey, that gives me the goosebumps reading that, Hams. scared.gif

In my family's last home, my sister experienced the loud whispering on one occasion, as she was walking up the stairs. It is a very distinct sound, apparently, quite clearly coming from next to her ear, rather than from a distance.

We all experienced the distant calling, too. I would often hear it late at night, when I was the only one still awake. In my experiences, it always seemed to be from either the garden outside, or from downstairs. My sister would experience the other kind of calling. The sort that imitated a voice, in this case, my mum's. She would often think my mum was shouting her name.
dancin'hamster
The mimicking of someone calling you is the same as me and my mum experienced. It was so creepy at first, then it just got annoying disgust.gif
The whisper, or hiss, or heavy breath I had on the October investigation was a shock. It felt as if someone was right next to my ear, so close - as if its' lips were touching me, but there was no feeling of breath or touch.......odd dontgetit.gif

My bloke has often said he thought I was talking to him when he was upstairs.

Back when I was a kid, I used to swear I would hear my name called (when no one had called it) when I was downstairs at my old house in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I never really associated it with anything ghostly till now, especially after my mom told me of some of the stuff her and my dad experienced in the house. Everyone in my family still swears that house was or is haunted.

Hmmm.... blink.gif

I have heard that, when spirit guides and guardians want to make contact with a person, they will begin by speaking their name. People who are prominent mediums and clairaudients, such as Derek Acorah, have reported this phenomenon at the outset of their mediumship lives, for example.

I would suggest that if you hear sounds of events which could have have occurred in the past (moaning, crying, footsteps etc) then it may be a ghost in the traditional 'stone-tape-recorder' theory, but if something is saying your name or reacting to your actions, then it is more likely to be a spirit.

My advice, as ever, is to speak back to it/him/her. What have you got to lose? thumbsup.gif
Songstress
Yes, I often heard my name being called before I embarked on my path as a Spiritualist medium. My house wasn't haunted, it was me that was haunted! I once heard eerie whistling in the middle of the night, too.

Derek Acorah is right - this name calling often precedes mediumship.

Love, Patsy.

I also have had my name called, I thought it was my boyfriend at the time as it sounded just like him, I automatically shouted 'what' but no reply and then it called me again a few minutes later in which I shouted 'what' AGAIN and still there was no reply.

It then hit me that there was no way it could of been him because he was away at the time.

It could have been worse, Minnie. Imagine if the voice had answered your question? I wonder if there have been any cases of that happening?

And if there was a reply, would that then be one of those interactive cases, from the other thread?

The first time this happened to me,I was just a wee lass. I was in my bedroom , when I heard my name whispered loudly. I ran into my parents room and asked them what they wanted. They were both sleeping and didn't answer. Since then, its happened every once in awhile.

scared.gif A few years ago i was looking after a friends cottage, when she went on holliday. One evening i was going upstairs to go to bed.I could hear someone whispering my name.It was a bit creepy but not scary.A few nights later the same thing happend. Again I did not worry about it to much, untill i sat down on the bed. I could feel a cold hand touching the back of my neck.I drove home that night and
told my friend my strange story, when she returned. She had never experienced anything like it in the house.
Agent_21
This is obviously a more widespread phenomenon than people realise. The voices that whisper your name must be particularly creepy. w00t.gif

In the cases of both Hams and my sister, the whisperer was up close against their ear. blink.gif

Not pleasant.

This is strange,

I sometimes hear my name being called, usually in the voice of my mother's. When I'd go find her, in the house, I would ask her if she called my name, but her answer would be "No". Then she'd give me this weird look, and I'd give her a weird look. So in the end it becomes funny, but really disturbing nevertheless.

I would also hear voices when I'd go to sleep... blink.gif

i think I was 15-16 yrs old, i was alone in our apartment washing dishes. I heard footsteps, (didn’t think much of it because I hadn't had an "experience" there), someone blow on my neck and then I heard a women whisper my name twice.
Loonboy

The only experiences I've had similar to those described here, have been two occasions where I've been asleep in bed or on the sofa and woke up to hear someone speaking in the room.

The first instance was a female voice coming from the corner near the bed where, needless to say, there was no female; the second was a male voice coming from behind the sofa, where there was no male.

What was strange, was that on both occasions I could not distinguish the words that had been spoken, and the voices stopped just as I came to. Stranger still was that on both occasions, afterwards I received news which had a big impact on me.

You could argue that spirit was forewarning me, but the message, at the time, was unclear...

Maybe with time it will improve? dontgetit.gif

Man i never beleived this until i read it now
My cousins who stayed at my aunts old house some years
ago
said they could hear somebody whisper their name
in the bathroom
and also sometimes the lights would turn off by themselves in the upstairbathroom
and also they could feel breathing on their bodies

i guess that house was haunted
after all

the only thing i heard when i was watcing TV alone in that house
was footsteps upstairs
and when i was in the garage i think i felt somebody blow air on me
but there was no one there...

i never heard whispers call my name
but i did hear like female whispers
tell me to do evil things in my ears one time
that scared me... that happened at my house

Yeah well this is how it happened
i was in my room listening to music in the dark
at low volume
then i started getting into the music
and singing along..
and then i felt like 2 presences one on my left
one of my right walk next to me
i felt them right next to me
then i felt their breathes
then i heard the female voices say
in and evil tone

Repeating:
"Kill them all , Kill them all,
They have to Die Die Die...."

so they were telling me to kill...

and no i never did what they told me to
i knew it had to be something evil
to tell me that..

after i heard that
i ran for the light and turned it on.
and got out of the room
it freaked me out...!
thats tha scariest weirdest thing that even happened to me..
i can;t explain why it happened..
but even since then i never listen to music in total darkness....

MisterBlueSkies
Argh! This reminds me of a similar experience almost ten years ago. I was watching tv in the living room when my sister walked past me and into our bedroom. She had this really weird glazed expression on her face, so I followed her. She stopped in front of our closet, then looked kind of confused. After a bit she turned around to face me, and apparently I surprised her because she jumped and started screaming bloody murder. She started crying too, and said that I had called her from the room, and when she walked in, she had seen ME walk into the closet.

I know she wasn't lying because she's the type who smiles when she's trying to pull one over you, and a horrible actor.

Doppelganger. blink.gif
MisterBlueSkies
It wouldn't surprise me if it was a doppelganger. The apartment building we were living in belongs to my grandfather, and strange things are known to have occured in it. When he first bought it a little boy had drowned in the canal that ran beside it, and a man living in the basement complained that something rattled the acoustic ceiling tiles and pulled his blankets off when he was trying to sleep. Not too long after he filed the complaint, the man disappeared, leaving all his things behind (although my rational mind tells me that he was probably deported).

I would also see crazy things in that room, like tiny grey people way less than a foot tall coming out of the closet at night. I recall one time my sister and I making a hammock on our bunk bed by tying both ends of a sheet to two of the bed posts. We had turned off the light just for fun, and were laying there, laughing and talking, when it felt like something was scratching at our backs. We weren't pretending, because we simultaneously shuddered and yelped when we felt it. I could partially see through the blanket bacause it was very thin, and what I saw was this showed form that looked like a wolf. We could also hear its nails scratching at the cloth. When I looked up over my sister's head (she was sitting opposite me so the soles of our feet touched) I saw one of the little people sitting on the bedpost where the blanket was tied. She claimed that she saw one over my head too. We screamed for our parents and older brothers for half an hour, and even though the bedroom door was wide open, they didn't hear us until our voices were shot and we were moaning and crying.

Definitely not one of the best childhood memories.

Oh! And another thing: a few years later I was watching T.V. when Unsolved Mysteries came on, and they showed a mummy that looked exactly like the Little People I had seen!

Who exactly was she telling you to kill? All as in everyone on earth?

This is terrifyingly strange. Giving me goosebumps... ph34r.gif
So what you're saying is that she saw someone who looked like you, call her name, and then saw "you" (doppleganger) walk into the closet?

Does your sister still remember this event? Although asking her might bring up the traumatic event and may start to disturb and stress [her]. Anyways, I was just wondering whether or not she could give a description of this doppleganger...ghostly or terrifyingly real.

Possibly prime suspects. I've been reading reports of such aliens. I do believe aliens exist. MisterBlueSkies, do you still live in this house? I might have you do some expiriments if you do still live in the house. These posts are truly disturbing yet interesting... blink.gif .

I'm trying to figure certain paranormal experiences out by tying them together...finding links...such as these small grey aliens.
MisterBlueSkies
Yes, my sister does remember (seems kind of hard to forget something so freaky), I try not to think about these things alot, but we were talking the other night when she brought it up. She described the other me as "completely solid looking, nothing unusual or out of place, and wearing the exact same outfit I was wearing while watching the tube." (I wore very distinct clothes, the outfit was a shirt that said "Monk's Bar" and the pants I had doodled all over.) It didn't dissipate or anything, it just ducked into the closet and didn't come out. When she turned around, I was right behind her.

No, I don't live there anymore, but my grandfather still owns it and still has tenants in it. I go there regularly to help collect rent or fix apartments (people seem to think that they can trash the place and steal fixtures like toilets since they don't own the place.)

Interesting... do you think aliens could be performing psychological experiments of some sort?

Also, my grandfather has recently bought and renovated the building next door to it. One of the tenants has mentioned to me that she hears stomping sounds coming from a still vacant room, and that her funiture sometimes gets rearranged at night. From what I've heard from the neighbors, the whole neighborhood has unexplainable things happening.

Strange, it could have been that boy who drowned in that canal. However, I don't understand why it take the shape of yourself. If these aliens use that closet you spoke of as an exit and entrance to their domain or spaceshipt. Then there should be a way to get to them. hmmm....figurin that out is gonna take quite a long time.

How bout a video camera. Still, that happened a long time ago. To think aliens would stick around that long and still be performing their expiriments would be idiotic. Unless they have a long life...strange

A solid background check of that neighbourhood should lead to a source of all this. Otherwise...aliens or ghosts would seem to be the culprits.

I had a similar experience to this in my early 20's.
I used to smoke in bed first thing in the morning on a regular basis. But this particular morning I lit up a ciggy and dozed back to sleep again. All of a sudden I heard my grandads voice shouting at me to "WAKE UP". I woke up and found a massive ciggarette burn in my quilt and it was smouldering.
After that I have never had another cigg in bed. And the weird thing was, my grandad had been dead for seven years. blink.gif

Absolute true story, I assure you.
buggyelfmaiden
Ah... the reason I hate being alone... *Shudders* And down here in the south it's a little worse.

Guess I've been reading too many swamp horror stories *G*

Though I've had that happen before. It's creepy...

*Jumps* And It makes it worse hearing the cats on the damned roof. I thought cats were suposed to be quiet? It sounds like a heard of buffalo up there.

I don't know a great deal about 'doppelgangers' but I don't think that they are ghosts or separate spirits - from my understanding of them, they are a projection of the self. If your sister saw you then it would not be someone else's spirit or ghost. The questions is, what was the purpose of the apparition - surely not just to frighten your sister.

Sounds like those apartments were a well-spring of phenomena...

You'll be pleased to know you're not alone, Minnie. My sister also heard the shouting, imitating the voice of my mother. If I remember rightly, I think Hammy also heard a voice imitating her mother, in her experience.

The shouting I heard was too distant and non-descript to place an owner to the voice, but there do seem to be a fair few people who hear these mimicking voices.

Do you think it was a mimicking spirit, an ethereal Mike Yarwood; or could some locations retain something of the current occupants' activities which gets 'replayed' under certain circumstances?

huh.gif

If a voice is heard which emulates or imitates the voice of another person who is not present, I would suggest that this is not a spirit or a guardian etc, but is more likely to be an elemental type entity, and as such should not be toyed with.

Hi Loon grin2.gif

Can I just ask where the idea of an 'elemental' came from?
I am aware of the belief in such things but I confess I find the whole thing rather absurd. I have been told by two mediums that these are the energies of something that has not yet been born into human form, and that it is created by negative and unpleasant energies.

Just totally confoodles me.............

And the mimicking thing - could it be some kind of 'recording'?
Could our voices have been absorbed into the surroundings to be played back at the time when the atmosphere was correct?
And also, why did the voice my mum heard (and swore it was me) scream and cry?

Curiouser and curiouser...........

It's easy to say you'd love to live in a haunted house, but actually living in one is no fun believe me.

My last 3 homes have had unexplained happenings in them and it wasn't very pleasant either, but the sounds I've heard and the feeling's I have felt were very real and at one point 'terrifying' especially in my 2nd home, I actually grabbed my son (who was 4 at the time) out of bed in the middle of the night and ran out the house to my parents home.

Hey Dancin'Hamster!

The 'elemental' theory has been around for quite a while and I have to say that I do give it some credit. They have also been called devas (not 'divas' as in the big haired, glam female icons w00t.gif ).

Basically, you're correct in your brief explanation. Any location in which any strongly negative emotion is played out or where anything horrible has occurred soaks up the energy. This energy is like a ship without a captain, going nowhere and just hanging around.

I don't know where the intelligence comes from, but it is thought that an intelligence either takes over that energy and uses it, or the energy itself manifests as an intelligent entity. Once formed, the elemental basically becomes a selfish, childlike force striving to make itself noticed or to dominate an area. It does not have a personality like a normal spirit would, and it's traits are to use the energy to create smells, touch or scratch people, or make sounds. Often they are seen as animal-like shapes moving in the corner of one's eye. I do believe that this is where the 'black dog' phenomenon comes from.

Since the elemental does not have a voice of its own, it can only speak by mimicing others... hence my point above.

Elementals are best not engaged with, and the areas where they inhabit should be cleansed or blessed by someone who knows what they are doing.

This any clearer? dontgetit.gif
buggyelfmaiden
Why must everything be negative? I know some of the voices I've heard since a child actually were more like guardians warning me away from something.

And sorry rambling again. Bad habbit... Must be Hammy's fault for scaring me with her stories.

Scorpius
Crystal Clear. tongue.gif

If we were to place positive energy on the surrounding areas where these negative entities live, would that help lose em'? Ying and yang creates a balance of a neutral state. If this is right... wacko.gif

*Nods* I mean if you think positively around the namecallers... maybe they'lll go away.

But then again.... it might not work too well.

Weirdness. when I was younger, me and my friends would go to the playground by my house. whenever no one was talking, I'd hear my dad's voice calling me. I'd ask whoever was with me if they heard it too, and they'd say they didn't. Weirdest part, though, it was usually when both my parents were at work and it was too quiet to be from my house. I always just assumed it was my mind playing tricks on me, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure.

huh.gif
Not everything paranormal is negative: look at good spirits & ghosts (like the one in Dancin's hitch-hiker story), or guardian angels, or alien encounters after which the person feels stronger, or NDEs after which the person has clearer life goals...

I have no idea why an elemental is usually negative or destructive - must be because the newly-formed being is quite unadvanced and therefore more primal??

Buggyelfmaiden, I guess physics would say that bringing something positive into an area of negativity might well eradicate it, but then again the negative influences that built up the elemental in the first place would have gone on for years or have been something very serious (like a murder, or torture etc), so the positive force would have to equal it...

Interesting stuff. w00t.gif

like in the place of a death... bring life.

have to think here.... Science of anysort's not my strong point. *Still can't see whe Biology classes require you to cut up an animal.... The chemicals they used when I was in school made me sick.*
