Someone recently told me that they had heard that the two world wars were caused by a legion of demons unleashed on earth at that time! Absolutely insane, I know, but I wondered if anyone might know where she got this crazy idea from.

Well, there have been a few correllations between Hitler and research into Satanic powers. Seems that at least he had a definite interest in their existence. Anything more than that...I would have to see something more definite.

I wouldn't say satanic powers, more an interest in the occult, but i fear this may have been a bit over played in the public imagining after the Indiana Jones films and games like Wolfenstein

I watched a special on Hitler and the occult once, and it was more one of Hitlers top officials that was into the occult and working with a unit that dealt with such things. I think it was Himmler. Anyways oddly enough they did get ahold of the "spear of destiny" from a museum in Austria. For those who don't know what that is, it is supposed to be, at least it is rumored, the spear that was stuck in Christ's side during the cruscifixtion. However I don't know the full details on the spear thing, but I know they took it to Hitler.

I don't agree with WWI, but I can see where they got the idea for WWII. WWII was a war against good and evil. Although don't get me wrong, I don't believe there were actual demons fighting.

Maybe she got the idea from Hellboy.

There is much research into hitler and the occult, tho i think that WW2 was down to them just being your run off the mill phsycos an not legions of demons .

LOL, that was what I was thinking. There was a deffinite influence of demons on the czars of Russia (through council of rasputin, the mystick guy that hung around the last czars). But I don't know about the world wars.

Legion of demons...yeah right... The only legion of demons that was ever unleashed and causes war was in WARCRAFT3...

The Devils greatest deception was in convincing man that he did not exsist...The corellations between the Nazi party and the occult are actually pretty interesting, from the swastika(crooked cross) to the alleged memberships with the Golden Dawn (an organization made popular by one Allistar Crowley) and the obsession with the mythical Aryan race, appearantly much of the "inner circles" members also held a strong belief in the occult. Still, legions of demons actually fighting a war on earth, pretty hard to swallow, unless of course you believe the Devil really does exsist

I dont know about this legion of demons business, but I think that in the past and the present day there are some pretty evil people, I mean evil in the sense that the ideals and doctrines they portrayed and are portrayed today have their roots in evil itself, to blatantly order or kill even one human being or millions without compuncton must be evil

The two in the twentieth century would be numbers 3 and 4.

The Seven Years war, spread across the globe, as did the Revolutionary/Napoleonic wars, and some military writers suspect that future historians will rename them as such.

So, does the demonic theory spread to these, as well? Was Bonaparte possessed? Or was he just a sad wee man with a small willy complex?

With all of these demons ripping around throughout the ages, why hasn't anyone ever found a body or some incorrigible proof? I sure hope they don't melt away upon death like the wicked witch of the east (west?), man I was bummed when that happened. Proof in my hands and then...nothing...

I don't know! Maybe, but there isn't enough proof for me to be convinced to tell you the truth.

The idea that angels and demons were engaged in war is biblical in origin. The first war was the one you've all heard about where lucifer fell into the abyss.
The second war has only ever appeared in movies. There are several but the first was "the prophecy" in which st paul is quoted as saying "even now in heaven there are angels carrying savage weapons"
The quotation is actually hollywood mumbo jumbo.
There has never been a war involving angels and demons on earth

Demons! Angels! Sanskrit!? I don't believe any of those things exist on the level of reality that you guys are talking about....even sanskrit. Honeslty, someone should truthfully and objectivly look as a child making up a story about good and evil and then look at your coversations about demons and angels....you might see just where your coming from and when you do you'll remember what it was like to be a kid maybe...and not be plauged with worry about nonsense.

a guy i know follows this religion (i forget what its called) which teaches that each major war in our history was started because the fallen angels in were trying to get back into heven thats why they were so bad.

he believes that on each occassion heaven won but there will be a time when the battle will get so bad angels will come down and take everyone from his religion (but no others because they didn't earn the right) up to heaven before the earth is destroyed.

Hmm, I'm not sure if it was "legions of demons" that started the two WW's. But I do believe the next one will be along these lines.
