Panthera leo atrox
I saw this thing grazing in a pasture with a herd of cows in Nebraska. It looked a lot like a reindeer withought antlers to me. It seamed to be shedding off its outer coat of hair, and only a few clumps were left.

Maybe it was a female deer that didn't have antlers. Or maybe the antlers broke off.

Are deer scared of cows?

Deers are scared of their own shadows... *grins*

The drawing looks more like a dog then it looks like a deer disgust.gif

it kind of looks like a sheep to me... eyecrazy.gif
The Raven
Could be one of those strange creatures like the Jersey Devil, your description roughly got me thinking of it, but the picture threw me off.

Maybe it was an Alpaca or a Llama?
If it looked like a reindeer it was probably too big to be a sheep.
But Alpacas and Llamas are raised on farms for their wool. did it have a kinda long neck? Not terribly long like a giraffe or anything, but a bit long in proportion to its body?
Panthera leo atrox
I don't think so, but I do remember that its legs were long and thin. Mighta not portrayed that as well as I wanted in the drawing.
The Raven
I looked up a bit on some illnesses with Horses (Your picture resembles a horse) and found a few things with matted, clumped, and lost hair.

QUOTE

"Commonly located in the saddle girth area. Scaly, crusty, or red circular patches with central hair loss are typical. May see matted clumps of hair which fall out easily.
Rain Scalds A fungus infection that occurs in rainy weather. Characterized by tufts of matted hair which look like large drops of water. Tufts come out leaving bare patches about 1 inch in diameter. May resemble ringworm. Skin often becomes secondarily infected.
Irritant Contact Dermatitis  Red bumps with crusting and hair loss. Found around the muzzle, feet, legs, saddle girth, and other areas in contact with irritants. Healed skin may turn white (depigmentation).
Selenium Toxicity Loss of hair from mane and tail ("bob-tail" disease). Cracks in the hoof wall may cause severe lameness. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/8...skin.html"

I don't know if that resembles anything you saw.

This is a Reindeer

It was probably a female reindeer. Farmers are starting to raise a lot of exotic animals these days. For instance, there's a little ranch near my hometown here in Texas where you can see zebras, buffalos, and antelope all grazing together by the side of the road.

The Raven is right. But I think it was a donkey. That ailment hinders donkeys a lot more than horse. Donkeys get these thick spotted clumps of hair all over their body but mainly on their sides. No idea what that condition is called. Maybe they shed? tongue.gif But yea Dez I hear what you mean. Me being in texas too there r a lot of weird exotic animals being raised here.

Thanks for your suggestions! thumbsup.gif Like dezavala said, I think that maybe it was an imported exotic.

Sounds like one of those exotic sheep their bringing in now around here, ugly things.. As for deer being scared of horses and cows-- I have not found that to be the case as I have had several take up residence on the farm around my horses and even my pit bull, Cowgirl.
