A coroner has been asked to order a forensic investigation into a human skeleton unearthed under a barn next to Borley church. There is speculation that the bones could be linked to part of a skull found in the cellar of Borley Rectory after the notoriously-haunted house burned down more than 60 years ago.The skeleton believed to be hundreds of years old was found last month by workmen digging new footings to convert an ancient barn into a house. The site is on the opposite side of the road from where the rectory stood. Now psychic researcher and author Edward Babbs has written to the Essex Coroner asking for an investigation.Mr Babbs has not been allowed to view the remains, which he says are being kept in Borley Church awaiting reburial."But I am told parts of the skull, including one of the jawbones, are missing. These seem to correspond to the pieces of skull discovered under the cellar floor of Borley Rectory on August 17, 1943."I understand the skeleton's hands and feet are also missing, but it could be that the smaller bones have just disintegrated."It is possible that the area where they were found was once part of the graveyard. But if that is the case, it seems odd that no other bones have been discovered."Mr Babbs, who has written a comprehensive book on the Borley phenomena, said: "I realise that because the bones are old the coroner would not normally take any action. But I have written to request an investigaton, in view of the site's history. I am now waiting for a reply."Modern technology could reveal the age of the bones, the sex of the person, and roughly how old they were when they died," he said.A spokesman for the Essex Coroner's office said Mr Babbs' letter was the first they had heard about the Borley bones.
