I started playing piano 2 days ago. I am actually pretty good for a person who just started, but I fear that I might be memorizing the songs I play instead of which notes are what on the bar. It's hard for me to tell without counting the lines what one note is. Any tips on what I can do to speed up note recognition?

I think you shouldn't worry about it at this point. To practise reading I use a lot of materials with lower difficulty level than my actual skill. Because you just started to learn a new instrument, I guess you won't be able to find a lot of materials with lower difficulty level than your current skill. Anyway... have fun. I always want a piano, but really cannot afford it at this moment.

I rcently started too... Just use the phrases like 'FACE' and 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fine Apples' to remember the notes.

heya, ive been playing for about 7/8 years now and i had the same problem, id just memorize the notes and when i HAD to read them id count the lines like you. some ppl pick it up and some ppl dont, unfortunitely, one solution is just having to sit down and just learn the notes until u go mad, until you know it backwards, lol, its hard but its one of the only ways, coz the more advanced you get, you cant afford to count the lines and work it out, you've just gotta look at it and know immediately...so just memorize where each note is until its imprinted in your mind forever and ever and ever.

good luck!!

Don't worry, lots of people have this problem. I still do and I've played trombone for four years now. I play in the marching band and am one of the best. I say as long as you're able to play it's fine.

Does anyone know how long it takes (on average) before you can play a song like Ode to Joy? I love that song!

I'm still sort of a beginner myself, and memorizing notes for me took a long time- I can only recognize a few of them. It'll take time. A lot of time in my case. But this stuff is just supposed to sort of grow on you. Good Luck!

I have a question? Is it hard to play classical piano? Can you piano classical piano on a keyboard.
