Question:
Can ghosts appear as black shadows/silohettes?
Watching tv with a friend of mine one night and out of the corner of my eye, ther was a sillohette of a man standing in the doorway, casually looking in at us with his arms folded in front of him. Of course when I noticed that I looked at him and of course he was no longer visible.
Was it a ghost I saw?

I have seen those before, its possible that it was, or, you might have caught a reflection out of the corner of your eyes, your hair, etc. keep a lookout for it again, usually they will appear in the same spot, I think, and watch for movement. watch for anything else, besides just the figure. I have seen a figure, numerous times, enough that I've become uncertain that I was not seeing something else.. but after I moved my normal spot on the couch to the other side, I've not seen it so often. besides that, I'd seen a shadow hand reach out toward me, and rest itself upon the arm of the couch that I was sitting near/leaning against. I have heard that people -all over- are seeing these things, these shadow people, as we have come to call them. So me and you aren't the only ones

The corner of your eyes are the most light receptive parts, therefore you are more likely to witness changes in lights etc, that you wouldn't notice if you stare straight at it, it was probably just a flicker of light change from the TV that cast a shadow on the wall that your eyes see,
I wouldn't read too much into it, I can see a group of children out of my eye at the moment however when I turn to face them its just a bush.

I think what you saw could've been an optical illusion because of the TV and the eye is also a mirror. That might be if you sat watching TV in a dark room. Did you? If you had lights on, then I don't know other than something else you saw.
Yes I've seen something like that but I wasn't anywhere near a TV or Computer. It happened 10 years ago, when I was unable to get to sleep in bed, I sat up thinking and the curtain (big windows) was open a little in the centre. I then saw something in the corner of my eye and I looked full on and it was a thin oblong shape of bright luminous white. It lingered and disappeared. I thought it was my eyes but it happened again and again. Sometimes that light would vanish before I turned my head, sometimes it stayed there for ages. After a while I got a shiver and hid under the blankets. It wasn't until a year later that a neighbour told my dad that the person who lived in our place before had died in my room, 2 years before we moved in!

I've heard lots of tales of shadows and silhouettes being seen by people in their normal field of vision, some of these people being family members or friends.
I fully agree that things seen out of the corner of the eye can be our mind playing tricks on us. But if these shapes/ghosts/apparitions can be seen in our normal field of vision, then it is possible something witnessed at the periphery of our vision could also be paranormal.

Miserable Man is quite correct and you have to be wary of the things you see in the corners of your vision. Rule out the obvious from what we know about our eyes first.
I sometimes see things at the periphery of my vision, and sometimes it's like a flash or a dark spot - this is problems with the retina.
Now when I've seen orbs and the like, they've moved across my entire field of vision, or spirit lights, which I saw directly ahead of me.

Well, I was always told infants could see things that we could not. Cause kids are more open. And when I was teaching an autism class, I was told the children "see" better out of the corner of their eye. I often wondered if they could see something I couldn't.

| Many infants do not appear to see people and so may not look people in the eye, but in the baby with autism the gaze tends to be brief and out of the corner of the eye7 |

Thanks for the replies. This had happened years ago.

I've considered the possibility that I am just seeing shadows out of the corner of my eyes from TV, etc.. except that it is the same exact shape, every time, and moving, every time. And I'd seen it mostly in one spot. It could be a trick of the eyes, but I'm not ready to rule out the possibility of a resident "spook" hanging out either. There have only been a very few times that I actually saw something directly in my line of vision, and usually, when I notice something peripherally, it is motion, first, then the shape is noted.

I believe that Shadow people is a blanket term that should be defined more . Most cases as have allready been stated are seen out of the corner of the eye . They have been linked to such things as imps , elementals and even Aliens . Personally I think that it's our eyes playing tricks on us when we see them liike this .
However a shadow seen with full vision , yes I believe it could be a ghost

or Sleep paralisis or subconscious projection each case is diferent .

I was also under the impression that most "shadow people" are seen out of the corner of the eye, but I have also read as well as heard at least two first-hand accounts of full-on direct vision shadowpeople.
Without telling someone else's story...
one shadowperson was observed, from the viewer inside his bedroom looking out the window, to walk up onto the porch (complete with creaking noises) outside, pass in front of the window and INTO the room, and glide along the wall INSIDE the room, pretty much perfectly as a shadow could do if it weren't bound to its physical 'root' (ie, person casting the shadow).
This same person also chased, with 2 other people, a silhouette early in the morning whom they assumed was someone trespassing, so they had their baseball bats and such ready, and they both saw a figure's head poking up from behind a propane tank, and moving around slightly, as if looking to see if there was an open avenue of escape, as they surrounded it. When they finally closed and all rushed it at the same time, they wound up only coming face to face with each other and no figure, not even a fleeing one, in evidence.

Are shadow people the same as ghost? Shadow people sound benign like orbs.

most of the time I have seen the shadows from the corner of my eyes, but it is movement that drew my attention to it. I have seen shadows when looking straight at them too, though.
A few days ago, actually, while I was actually on this site, typing a post, I glanced to my left (a corner) and saw shadow shapes moving around, while I looked straight at them. In the midst of them, I thought was my own shadow. It was not till the next night, or night after, that I looked again, and saw no shadow there, when all the same lights were on. There was no light source for the shadow that I thought was mine on the wall.
