Anyone here getting the RoyalRumble PPV? I may be getting it on webcast, I HOPE!! Hubbys checking finances first though. $35.00 is a bit much for a webcast, but the free offer WWE is offering may make it worth it.
Anybody have picks(or who they would like to win?) for who will win their matches??

Batista, is probably gonna win the Rumble, if not John Cena
I really hope Kurt Angle wins the title
HHH is going to beat Randy
I hope Edge beats HBK
I have a feeling Heidenreich is gonna beat Undertaker due to Gene Snitsky

Well, I do doubt someone from smackdown will win it. So batista in my mindis the only really obvious one....

Fans of Rob Van Dam will be sad to learn that they won't see the former WWE Intercontinental, Tag, and Hardcore Champion for a while. Van Dam underwent reconstructive knee surgery down in Birmingham today under the care of Dr. James Andrews in order to help repair the torn ACL that he was suffering from. As of right now, Van Dam is looking at six months out of action, which means that he wouldn't be back until sometime before Summerslam.

Sources close to the Lesnar-WWE situation claim his asking price for a return contract is "ridiculous," which explains why WWE has not shown noticeable interest in reaching a deal. It's only reasonable that Lesnar expect a substantial paycut after leaving WWE for a failed shot at the NFL.
Although it remains to be seen if a deal between Lesnar and WWE can be reached in time for Sunday, some claim WWE is using the potential of a "Royal Rumble" spot as a way to entice Lesnar to lower his asking price and return to the company. It's clear that WWE is not opposed to having him back, especially if they could milk a 'shock' angle out of it.

Jan 29 2005, 10:51 PM
Yeah I've seen him. He doesn't look all that impressive IMO. He's 6'4 about 250-260. He just has a lot of muscle.
Speaking of absolute beasts. Bill Goldberg, possibly one of the most dangerous men I have ever seen wrestle, lol. DO you not think he is just plain brutal?
Subtemperate
Jan 29 2005, 11:04 PM
Chris Masters has been with WWE since Spetember 2003, so hopefully hes not as green as others that the WWE debuted in the last year or so...
He is listed as 6'5 270lbs....
AS for Goldberg, he was marketed well in WCW.... But as far as wrestlers go he wasn't much of a beast.... Lesner was much more of a beast in Size, strength and ability.... Plus Goldberg didn't have the endurance to generally wrestle past 10 - 13 minute matches....
And in real life.... Goldberg got into a fight with Jericho backstage, and Jericho had to be pulled off him (Goldberg admitted this on a late night show such as Conan).... So I doubt hes as dangerous (apart from sloppy) as WCW made him appear....
Vitalogy
Jan 29 2005, 11:34 PM
Goldberg is rather clumsy I'll admit, he was always slipping over on the entrance ramp, lol. But I'm an avid Goldberg fan, and I find it hard to imagine a man of that size, power and strength not being dangerous. Jericho may have gotten the upper hand on him in a backstage brawl, but in terms of brute strengh and 'dangerousness' I think Goldberg could and would inflict immense amounts of damage on anyone he chooses.
Lesnar is undoubtedly a beast, due to his rigorous training regeim. He should lay off the shooting star presses though
And Goldberg stands in his own Pyro...

There are lots of men that are far bigger, powerful and dangerous in WWE...which is my point. He was nothing extremely special.... Remember I used to be a big fan of him in WCW.... So I am not a goldberg hater as such, but I have since seen how bad this guy is once he isn't the only guy being pushed.....

What are you views on the rest of evolution, and ex-evolution members?
My personal thoughts are:
HHH - undoubtedly talented, but in terms of what we see, he is very disappointing. He never seems to do anything by himself, his move set consists of about 6 moves, and he just doesn't get the crowd going.
Flair - Can't really knock Flair in terms of talent and credibility, although I think he has reached his prime and is starting to decline.
Batista - Potentially one of the best in the business, which we should hopefully start to see more of.
Orton - Way, way better off on his own. His talent, charisma and all other positive traits have come through now.

My personal thoughts are:
HHH-Great, but needs to step away from the title
Flair-Senile
Batista-Next best big man, unless he blows it
Randy-Better as a heel and in the mid-card, but is starting to change my mind
Subtemperate
Jan 29 2005, 11:58 PM
HHH - He is a great wrestler, but being a heel you don't really have the opportunity to work the crowd, unless you the dudleys who abuse them verbally. The crowd are generally following the person HHH is against, and therefore whenever the crowd gets louder in appreciation, and HHH quietens them...that is as good as getting heat in my opinion. HHH is a solid in ring worker, but agreed his character has gotten stale in the way he wins matches. I want the tough HHH from 2000 back..
Orton.... Im not as into him as much as everyone else. You mention HHH only having 6 moves, well if thats true Orton has about 3. There are so many rest periods in his matches, and the constant punching he does gets on my nerves. I have no problem with his character and all outside the ring... and I think he is a great athlete...but they need to work on his ring skills still.
Flair.... hang up the boots Ric.... Seriously he isn't going to do much but bury talent if he beats them, or cast a cloud on his career if he contnually loses. He needs to stay as a manager...that I can handle...
I like Evolution as a group, although I would have liked to see another stable to challenge them...
Vitalogy
Jan 29 2005, 11:58 PM
Hahaha, senile. Now that you mention it, Orton RKO'd Flair a couple of weeks back, and Fair is so past it now, he doesn't even fall properly.

Jan 30 2005, 12:51 AM
Yeah competition would be good, but it doesn't mean it would make WWE better. When WCW started doing well, WWE were having some of the worst shows possible (mind you they had a few big stars that were good)...... It was WWE losing business and becoming unstable that led them to try and combat their opposition.
NWA/TNA which is the closet thing to comp at the moment would have to do something amazing to suddenly burst onto the mainstream scene though... (They could make me a booker, Id do it

)
No Vitalogy I have never heard of that....? Where is that from?
snuffypuffer
Jan 30 2005, 12:57 AM
TNA isn't quite what it could be. Once they started bringing in old timers like Hall and Nash, who really can't put on a decent match anymore, they really started going downhill.
How would you fix things if you were a booker, Subby?
Vitalogy
Jan 30 2005, 01:05 AM
I think WWE has earned it's place as "Top dog" to be honest.
GAEH is from Japan Snuffypuffer. It's really strange to watch, the Japanese crowds hardly ever get worked up or excited, there is the odd ripple of applause, but other than that it's so quiet you can hear the temperature drop. You can hear what is going on in the ring perfectly, which adds to it I guess. It's really good.
Subtemperate
Jan 30 2005, 01:07 AM
That would depend.... You see I havent had the opportunity to see TNA for a long time, no PPV's or TV time here in Aus (that i know of) So I only saw it a while ago.
Your right Snuffy, from what I have heard and read TNA have decided to gain popularity by going after people that have a name in the business, such as the older WWE wrestlers...and some which were misused or not over in WWE. They seem to think having leftovers from WWE tv will give them better mainstream popularity with fans, but this is not the case. We all think WWE programming and such is in a hole right now, we don't need a smaller version of it too.....
The TNA needs to make a statement that seperates itself from mainstream. Like ECW did when SHane DOuglas tossed down the NWA title and claimed ECW the place to be in an NWA tournament. Without seeing the talent, its hard for me to judge what to do solely...
One thing that would be good, would be to get the old wrestlers like Hall and Nash that are contracted, and have them put over the newer breed...pushing the unheard of's as the float of the company, rather then the old timers who we have seen time and time again. People want to go on a ride, and watch people develop through their careers, not see them constantly get pushed down by people who are passed their prime in ability and popularity (one thing the WWE might want to look at too).
Anyhow, if I had the product in more detail, I could give some good answers based on my thoughts...whether they would work or not I don't know, but they aren't doing much better now...

Jan 30 2005, 02:54 AM
I haven't seen TNA in a few weeks, since Fox Sports has changed its time slot. but what I would do, if I ever got the chance, would be to sign a couple guys from WWE who aren't as over as they should be, or just aren't used properly. Like Christian, Tajiri, and Rhyno, for beginners.
Then I'd play up the angle that it only takes three seconds to win a match. One of the things that sucks about wrestling is how predictable it is, usually you know who's going to win a match weeks ahead of time, just by the way an angle is pushed. So I'd have some crazy upsets, have some lower card guys who normally job win by a schoolboy or something. Playing up the idea that any wrestler could win at any time would keep the fans interested, as you could count on something truly unexpected happening every week. You wouldn't have to have a spectacular upset all the time, just enough to keep things interesting.
Another thing I'd do is cut down on the number of pay per views each year, to three or four. Then you could really build up a rivalry, and fans would be more interested because it wouldn't seem like it's just an extension of the weekly shows, but an actual event. The storylines would get better because they would take longer to develop, and you could keep the wrestlers involved from getting stale against each other by keeping them apart longer, thus creating more interest. And that's what a wrestling show is all about, creating interest.
Of course, that's just how I'd do things. Plus, I'd have Christian and Tajiri as my champions for awhile, since I dig both of them immensely.
