For those who are unaware, the film is based on an infamous Japanese novel, in which Japan runs an organisation that takes a randomly selected classroom of ordinary students to a remote island, arms them, and then sends them out to kill each other to leave only one survivor.
Think Big Brother, only with forty or so contestants, and instead of getting voted off, you're shot, stabbed, blown up, mutilated, beaten to death, and all manner of rather twisted ways of being killed
Very violent, gory, and depressing film (and book) indeed...but certainly a masterpeice in its own right. It's one of those films (as indeed the book was), that's designed to make you think about human nature: the idea was to demonstrate what a human could become under a certain set of circumstances (in this case "kill or be killed").
I'm just curious to know if anyone else has seen the film, or read the book (there's also a manga adaptation available), and what people thought of it. Certainly a horribly depressing thing to talk about though
