Anyone seen Van Helsing? We went to see it Saturday night... it was really good ... and different... But I love Dracula, The Wolfman and Frankenstein!

Great Graphics... also had a pretty good story line.

Just thought I would give my opinion in case anyone plans on going to see it. It is one of those movies that is really good to watch on the big screen.

Take Care,

i want to see this movie very much. i love the fact that they're bringing back the good ol' Universal Studios Monsters. they were classics...they're so cool... wub.gif *swoons*

It was an okay movie. What I didn't like about it was the whole way they portrayed Van Helsing. He didn't seem that much like how he was in the books he was in. I'm sure if Ihadn't known who he was I would've liked it more. I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of LXG.

EXCELENT (can't spell today...) movie! non stop action and great story line...

besides it spooked my girlfriend a few times. *bonus!*

Interesting review Chico....but I stand my ground.. I think it was an excellent movie... i like that it had new twists... and it's own story .....

I guess some people just don't have much of an imagination.. and dont' like change.... Oh well... here's to the boring people out there! cool.gif

I loved the movie! A bit to long, though. Not a lot, just a tad. But one thing I hate is the review Chico posted. Now I am going to review his review.

Review of the "Review of Van Helsing by Sonny Fernandez"

I can some this review up in one word, and that word is crap. I will now quote one of the lines from his review.

"Toward the end of the movie he says that all he wants is his legacy to live on. You’re !@#$%^& Dracula! You don’t die you idiot! "

Now I'm no vampire expert, but I'm pretty sure Dracula can be killed. I mean, he is the king of vampires, so why would anybody want to kill him, right? But seriously, if he couldn't die, then why would he be in a movie about a guy who hunts monsters? That review has made me come up with a conclusion. And that conclusion is this: movie critics don't know what they are talking about and only write bad reviews to have an image.

I went to see Van Helsing last week. I'm one of those freaks who complains at the slightest historical innacuracy (cant wait to see Troy, lol happy.gif ) but the film really surprised me. I just sat there and enjoyed it...didn't whinge once! grin2.gif

I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy it because of Kate Beckinsale (she's peed me off in the past), but her acting was great...and I couldnt even find the strength to criticise the fact that she was hunting Dracula in a corset and high heels!

I also liked the twists they gave some of the familiar situations, like the "oh, no, the bridge up ahead is broken...will we clear the gap?" thing.

In conclusion, Film was good. May buy DVD.

**Don't yell at me**
I haven't seen it yet...

But the previews look awesome. I like the idea of revamping (Sorry didn't mean the pun) some of the old monsters from the past. I mean really...

What monsters does the modern world have that would scare people? I demember reading Dracula as a kid. He scared me. So did Frankenstien's monster. The lumbering Hulk from Mary Shelly's classic.

And there's nothing worse than a corpse coming back to life. (The mummy did an okay job of it. Would have been a little better if Brendon hadn't been the main character. Maybe get some action star not a goof ball)

Though personally I think the movie biz is starting to run out of fresh new ideas... Next we'll see Rambo XXIX Or worse... They'll make another Ali movie... and make him a white guy...

*Cringes at that thought since she's a fan of fighter movies*

Great movie!

I saw it last night with some friends of mine and we all liked it...

I really liked the irony of a religious Frankenstein LOL laugh.gif ....
Ozrosis

to make a good adversary and find a *gasp* weakness!!

on a side note, i've never been a fan of dracula. his character is very rarely made interesting and he's always a nigh-invincible creature. he's like the superman of the horror world: too powerful, powerful to the point of being incredibly difficult to interest me. the review's mentioning of what dracula was like in the movie interested me quite much. it sounds like they actually gave dracula a personality ohmy.gif

now, good monsters? werewolves and zombies.

Okay please don't kill me, but I saw Van Helsing 2 weeks ago and came away disappointed. I've got to agree a lot with the above review. I was expecting an eerie suspenceful movie instead I found it overly long, too many special effects, the brides of dracula over acted and the ending not properly explained. I'm 35 and grew up on scary movies, whereas my 12yr old daughter loved the movie maybe it's the age thing. huh.gif

All i can say is that IT WAS AWESOME. I loved every minute of it wub.gif thumbsup.gif

Just wanted to say that I thought this movie was great!

I like this film, and I was pleasently surprised at the way in which they brought back from the dead the old myth of werewolves and vampires not liking each other and also that only one could kill a vampire.

I first saw that plot twist in the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters in the late 80's.
chico del nacho
man the whole ghostbuster franchise is one of the coolest things in history.
poenix
didn't u just love hugh jackman at that movie?
Walken
Twas alright, Excellent beggening with that black and white thing. S'not really my thing though.

Welcome to UM, by the way.

Hummm..Im not a fan of his and i didnt like the movie....David Wenham is one of my favorite actors, but he plays such a dork in that movie.. tongue.gif
TheCrow
Stephen Sommers... He has a reputation of a bad director which I think is un-deserved... I have liked both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and thought that Van Helsing was just ok. But Stephen Sommers makes ok popcorn movies... He doesn't try to make big epic serious things, he knows his place as it were and he knows what his movies are, which are summer popcorn movies...

Ven Helsing, as I said was just ok... Too much CGI, Hugh Jackman was good, bad acting from others playing on stereotypes too much and some action sequences were ok.. but it went on a bit longer than what it should have and it crapped all over the story of Van Helsing...

It could have been a really good action/horror movie, siminar to Indiana Jones (in that it's an action movie but it's also a smart action movie, it doesn't dumb itself down and go for big explosions and stuff) with a proper Van Helsing hunting Dracula or whatever...

But As I said, Sommers knew what his movie was so I guess it depends how you look at it... as a movie it's pretty bad, as a popcorn movie, it's ok but it could have been so much better...
Mr Ed
For some reason it is meant to be one of the worst films of all time...
I thought it was all right, it is just meant to be entertaining.
Discordia
The movie was okay, besides some cheesy graphics. I recommend the book though, cos it was much better.

Honestly, it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen... the only worst movie I can think of right now is Universal Soldier: The Return yes.gif

i thought Van Helsing was a pretty good movie. it had a lot of action, but lacked story and character development. the special effects were sometimes cartoonish, but neat and pretty good. i could see why people dont like it, because it wasnt what they were expecting to see. anyways, i liked the movie.
AztecInca
I thought it was ok, nothing special, but something that entertained me and wasn`t horrible. I wouldn`t mind watching it again either, but its not up there as one of my favourites.
Tia
Van Helsing was ok, I agree the characters needed development.

The females vamps annoyed me, talk about overacting. blink.gif

Definitely worth watching for a perve if you're a Hugh Jackman fan. blush.gif

justfound20bucks
definately not a keeper. and definately a 1-timer if you get sucked into watching it once
Mad Manfred
I thought it was a fun adventure movie...I liked it...especially with Kate Beckinsale with black slacks and a push-up *hubba hubba*
Mr Ed
Ecks versus Sever is possibly the worst film I have ever seen.
Falco Rex
Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsdale were probably the only bright spots in this whole mess. It probably would have been so much better though were Dracula not so hideously overacted..He inspired laughter more than fear..
Not to mention the best villian in my opinion (Mr. Hyde) was killed off in the first few minutes.. tongue.gif
Mr Ed
Ah, Kate Beckinsale...

It was deliberate I think...the Dracula in the movie seemed to be a bit of a spoof.
Purplos
I had serious issues with that Dracula. Seemed the sort to sit at home filing his nails or checking his lacy cravat rather than going out and being an all-powerful blood-fiend. Still.... relatively fun to watch.
jpalz
He was a fag, that's what he was... yes.gif Though he had some good babes grin2.gif
Falco Rex
I was wrong earlier.I enjoyed Igor too..Remember the part where Dracula asks him why he's torturing the Werewolf and he slowly turns and says "It's just what I do."
I can totally identify with that.. tongue.gif
Amalgamut
I thought it was pretty good. thumbsup.gif
