The dominant rivals in hand-held game players have taken their gloves off, announcing new devices this week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, the industry's annual computer and video game convention.

Nintendo, which has long dominated the portable game market with its GameBoy system, unveiled a prototype for its next generation DS hand-held model, which will include additional capabilities like dual screens and voice recognition, intended to make game play more compelling.

Sony, on the other hand, believes that high screen resolution and fast processors in its coming new PSP portable will attract players beyond the children and adolescents who are now the largest users of portable video game players.
