Hey people, what is this?!?!?

It certainly isn't a rock...

Another view:

Wild-Eyes
A creeping tentacle from the ground?
A human femur bone?
An elephant's nose?
Our minds trying to place order upon something we don't understand?

I don't know.

I can't help but notice that the shadow of this "root" is almost directly underneath it, or maybe a tiny bit off to the left, where the shadows on all the other rocks are clearly stretching towards the right. I sincerely doubt we had multiple light sources for a picture this wide-angled.

Actually it's looping upwards, which would change the angle of the shadow a little. That being said, I'm not ready to accept that this is some kind of life form.

It could be a root, or a vien of some unknown mineral.

It is probably organic considering NASA destroyed the last evidence of organics on Mars with their Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT)

Take a look here to get the scoop!!!

I guess the age old analogy applies here" What you don't know can't hurt you"
or can it?
Joe013
now what plant that isnt sticking out of the ground would have a root that big?
Aslan
Is it not possible that this is actually a rock? Could it not be that the part appearing to be empty space beneath the 'root' is in fact simply a rocky protrubence, illuminated as it is beyond the main rock's shadow and of more or less the same shade as the ground?
the Yank
huh.gif Uh... I guess that would be possible. If you blow it up a little, you can see the individual shadows: one on the "root" if you will, and the other on the ground.

Unfortunately, there aren't any new pics from other angles yet...

although the pic taken on Sol 115 at 15:20 is slightly different than the one taken on sol 116 at 16:09...

Anyway, Aslan, I hope you're wrong and I'm right!

All these shots are "right-eye, left-eye"... Anyone got 3D software? I'll bet that would solve the puzzle...
the Yank
Update: on Sol 124 the Nav-cam took left/right-eye photos of the "root" area in center-mass. Nothing else has been posted from that spot. Apparently it has caught their attention as well. wink2.gif
