The Pendle Witches
'In the year 1612, at Lancaster gaol, in the English county of Lancashire, ten men and women were hanged for the crime of witchcraft.
The Pendle Witches, as they became known, were believed to have been responsible for the murder by witchcraft of seventeen people in and around the Forest of Pendle.
There were in total thirteen Pendle Witches: Alizon Device, Elizabeth Device, James Device, Anne Whittle, alias Chattox, Anne Redferne, Alice Nutter, Katherine Hewitt, John Bulcock, Jane Bulcock & Isobel Robey were the ten hanged at Lancaster gaol.
Elizabeth Southerns, alias Demdike, died in Lancaster Gaol awaiting trial, but was nevertheless considered to be a witch on the basis of evidence already given. Jennet Preston, who lived just over the Lancashire border, was tried in Yorkshire and hanged at York in 1612. Finally, Magaret Pearson was found guilty of witchcraft at Lancaster, but not murder, and received a sentance of one years imprisonment.'

Of course, when your'e a kid, the whole idea of withces running amok is wonderfully exciting...it's not until you get older that you realise that these women were oridinary, innocent individuals - the victims of gossip and fueds with their neighbours.
But the whole area here is rife with supernatural tales of ghosts and witches........could it be a 'window' area?
I remember on one visit, listening to the coach driver who had driven us there. He sat me up in the drivers seat, and told me all about the night he and some friends had tried to spend the night on Pendle Hill for a bet. It was a warm summer evening, and three of them truged up to the top and pitched up a tent. They all sat round playing cards and drinking until it got dark........one of them said "This is a waste of time - there's nowt up here"..........and no sooner had the words left his lips when the three of them noticed a patch of what looked like mist floating towards them. It was about 5 foot and it was glowing. They sat and stared at this mist, dumb-struck. Then, without warning - it 'shot p in the air and came charging toward us!'.............the three jumped up and ran all the way down the hill, none of them daring to go and collect their beer and tent until the morning.......
Found this on a little sight called 'All About Ghosts'
My Pendle Story
"Quite a few years ago myself, my girlfriend Diane and a couple of friends, Graham and John, decided it would be really cool to go to Pendle Hill in Yorkshire on Halloween night and watch the witches doing their stuff. It was a dark and stormy night (sic) and we had travelled from our home in Lancashire to Yorkshire. We got to Pendle Hill and decided that, as it was really quite horrible, we wouldn't go all the way to the top. Bravado ran out at this stage. We had climbed part way and decided to go back. We were heading home and laughing and joking when something large came out of the trees and across the road. We swerved the car and ended up in a ditch. Fortunately none of us were hurt and we had done minimal damage to the car. We got it out of the ditch with some pushing and shoving. As we were shaken up and in the middle of nowhere we decided to head back to civilization. We drove a little further and came across a pub. We all decided to go for a drink and calm down a little. It was a olde English country pub, not very decorative and the decor was functional. Only a few customers were there and as we entered all became quiet. We ordered our drinks and sat at a table on our own. Despite there being a blazing log fire in the pub it was very cold and we kept getting odd looks from the clientele. We decided just the one drink would do and left. The rest of our journey home was uneventful. When we got home and my girlfriend and I were getting ready for bed, she realized that she had lost a bracelet that I had bought for her birthday. We decided next day to return to the places we had been as she remembered the last time she saw it was before the crash. We reached the site of the crash and had a good look round. Unable to find it, she was a little distraught. We decided to go back to the pub and see if it had been left there. Now comes the really spooky part. When we got to the pub we found a decrepit shell and not just a recent one. From the looks of it, it had been empty a long time. We had a look around and there was the bracelet on the floor in the building. Now, I know that we had a drink in this building and my girlfriend at that time knows we had a drink there. The people in the village nearby told me that it had burnt down fifty years previously.'
So..........hogwash or did they actually enter a time-slip?
I'll leave you to decide
