The Ring was a good movie, wasn't it?
I take it that a second movie accompying the original Ring is coming out?

I'll have to rent it as I don't see films at movie theaters. The sound there has been recorded at over 100 decibles! thats loud enough to permenatly damage your hearing.

Why shouldn't we watch it, I've seen it and thought it was great

I know people that think that the ring is one of the scariest movies out there, but I think I may have missed something. I just didn't think it was that scary, or that good of a movie to be blunt...

I love a good scary movie, but I just couldn't get into this one. I liked the jerky nightmarish movement of the little girl, which was great. I may have not caught some of the symbolism that I was supposed to, I don't know.

I don't know if you have ever been to a small arthouse type movie, but that is what the ring felt like to me. It wasn't so arthouse'ish that it had drifting red balloons or anything, but seeing it from the point of view of never seeing the earlier Japanese version; it didn't make sense to me. There may have been some assumed knowledge that I was supposed to know but didn't...who knows.

Ok, the Ring I thought was a great movie. I love the horror genre, especially if it's in a style like the Ring where it's more psychological then gore or murderous undead/demon/former human things (aka Jason, freddy, etc). However it failed to scare me. Of course I'm not really scared by any horror. I have yet to find a movie that scares me. "It" kinda bugs me a bit, but thats all.

that's interesing, a girl with no face coming out of my screen...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

ohmy.gif When I saw The Ring the first time it scared me. I don't really scare easily but it was a very disturbing movie. The second time I was fine. I'd like to see the original Japanese version Ringu. Has anyone seen it?

Seen it. Picture The Ring with no makeup, special effects or acting talent, in japanese.

It sucked.

But the Ring is an amazing, well done movie that's packed with more symbolism than the bible, lol. Freaky as fack. I just hated their faces, especially when the girl is in the cupboard. It's smeggin creepy. I own it. grin2.gif
Made the girl watch it. Had my cellphone in my pocket. When the movie ended, i called the house. She screamed, and proceeded to beat the crap outta me.

chico del nacho
that movie freaked me out and not many movies can do that. but then again, this one had a picture of a nail being poked up through a finger and popping off a fingernail. ARGH!!! god, that kind of thing scares the bejeezus outta me...

Japanese horror is a curious mix. Alot of their movies are like the ring, no gore, but dark cinematography and psychological drama. However they also love making some the goriest movies ever made. The guinea pig series would be one of them. Infact one of the movies was seen by Martin Sheen and he reported it to the FBI, cause he thought it was a snuff flick. The director was actually arrested and was later released when he convinced them it was only special effects. Get this the movie in question shows an old samurai kidnapp a lady and inject her with a serum which turns pain into pleasure. He goes on to slowly cut her limbs and hands off while the camera focuses on her face showing her reactions. The special effects are indeed realistic and it seems very very real!

The japanese ring is really slow , however there is something special about a movie thats original. The english version was good, but i still wont call it scary. In terms of slow paced horror movies like this one..i rate Rosemary's Baby one of the best..it wasnt scary but the sheer performance of Mia Farrow and the brillance of Roman Polanksi makes the whole movie believable and freaky.

I know not everyone liked The Ring but, I can list it as one of the few movies that truly freaked me out. In fact even after owning it and watching it a few times I still get a creepy feeling from it I hope part 2 is just as good....
BurnSide
i'm sure it will be. they left that WIIDE open at the end.
