I've just now grasped the concept of Bandwidth Theft in relation to posting images from the web. Subsequently I've saved images on my hard drive and posted them as attachments.

What I was wondering is if I save the pic on my hard drive , then uploaded it and then deleted it off my hard drive will the pic still remain on the forum?

Also an overview of Bandwidth Theft and how to improve things would be great too.

Thanks.

as far as i know, once pics are uploaded in UM they are saved there. so you can delete em from your pc.

i'm not sure about bandwith theft (never heard of it)

but i do know that you can store images online free Here, its photobucket.com. they ask for a donation, otherwise its pretty much unlimited storage. (you can always make a new album when you fill one up) its convenient because the url's are displayed under the thumbnails. To post the images use the IMG button with the url's
Scar
Stealing bandwith is essentially , using the "IMG" button and pasting the properties of the image in the box,

You are really using there site to host the pic, so the bandwith is doubled to host that pic (x2 pics) and as more are linked it can get out of hand!

you should use that link provided , Bandwith costs people money As Im sure Mr S knows all about.

i never knew that scar, but it makes sense.

i was unaware that the IMG worked outside of the controll panel untill recently. ( i had pasted an incorrect url and got an error message, so i assumed it could not be used for posts) either way i've been using photobucket for months, and now i dont know what i would do without it. great site, i just donated $20 last month

UA thanks for the link I'm all registered now and ready to rock. grin2.gif

I can definetly see how this would become expensive. Why is the net designed this way? Is there any alternative to this type of structural design? Or is it this way to make a buck ?
Fenris
The only alternative is to copy the image you want and host it somewhere on the net that you are responcible for.... such as your own ISP webspace. You are paying for that bandwidth usage (And if it gets used TOO much your ISP will complain to you and possibly take action) so it stops being theft...... of course it then means other people may link to that image and steal bandwidth off you *Chuckle*
