Hiyas,

Found this .gif and was wondering if someone could re-size it so that it works on this site...I tried but it automatically scales it to 115x85 and it looks kinda crappy.

115x115 is thew maximum size allowed by UM, which means you have 2 alternatives;

One is to resize it ourselves hopefully retaining some of the quality:

linked-image

The other is to chop off the sides slightly so she is the same size but there's less background:

linked-image

I hope one of these options is OK for you

This is not a problem, simply copy and paste this link into the box that says "Enter a URL to an online avatar image" in your avatar settings:

Can you make Dexter do anything cool, like flex his muscles, or dance, or something?

If you can't do that, can he maybe... smile and then frown, back and forth? I don't know, I'm not sure how all this works. Thanks for considering it.

Love you guys you're the best!!!! (<------ Thought that couldn't hurt my cause any)

I'd like to request a re-sizing of the two pictures below. I'm not sure how much smaller, but so that it's smaller in dimensions and yet maintains it's animated effects, would be lovely. Thank you for reading this request. original.gif

I found those at uselessgraphics.com Under "Body Parts"/eyes.

Jurko.net has a tremendous selection of avatars and wallpapers, that always changes because of viewer contributions in both categories.

Hey there, all you crazy, wacked out animators!linked-image I am so stoked to have found this place! I have been collecting unusual and fun avatars, animated gifs, and wacky smilies and such for a while now, (for use in discussion forums), and have just recently developed an interest in learning how they are made. I'm going to have big fun here!
Any chance I could talk someone into giving my Terminator avatar flashing red laser-eyes that you can see through the sunglasses? linked-image

Hey Dan,
Those are very cool. Looks like a lot of work to produce such a 3-D, revolving figure. Do you have software that can bridge gaps between the many illustrations that this type of image would require, so that it appears to be so smoothly revolving?

No.

Far short of giving an extensive tutorial here I would say that there are many factors that go into the creation process to make smooth looking animated .gif's. I do not know of any single software application that magically produces animation's like this. I wish I did. Things like the actual 3D model(s) and initial rendering process (there are many factors such as IPR ((images per revolution)) for this process alone) all come into play here.

I used Poser for the 3D figure/pose, Lightwave for making the 3D surfboard model/rendering and animation shop for the final .gif creation.

About an hour total. If I was to chalk up it up to any one thing I would say that is years of trial and error.

The fact that you can produce that image in an hour is pretty impressive. Thanks for the quick answer and info. The more I look into this, the more fascinating it becomes.
I decided to try my hand at producing an animated gif using screenshots from a movie clip. (Something from the original "Terminator".) I hunted all over for freeware that could accomplish the task, and came up with a couple of options that just didn't pan out. I ended up downloading a trial version of a program called "!Quick Screen Capture". It did the job just fine, as well as being useful for some minor editing, (I prefer CorelDraw for that, however), and so now I have saved about 10 screenshot images that I hope to create an animated gif with. Now I'm off to read the tutorial at the beginning of this thread.
Not sure anybody cares to have a blow-by-blow commentary on the progress of my first effort, but I guess there's only one way to find out! linked-image

Well, it's not perfect, and my wife thinks it's juvenile as hell, but it's my first effort, and I'm pretty pleased. I learned a lot, and next time will be easier, faster, and much better. Ms GIF Animator worked great. Thanks for the tutorials, guys.

Unfortunately, this forum doesn't seem to want to accept the animated gif, even though it's hosted on photobucket.com, and I was able to use it on another forum. The link works, though. It's too large to browse and upload. (I'll make the next one much smaller)

I like it donkeyrokman. I agree though, it is too big. I love the text though... thumbsup.gif And what do wives know anyway.

*dodges frying pan*

You might want to try blender too. Although fairly complicated, it will eventually allow you to create some 3D renderings that you can convert to gifs. It will do pretty much what Lightwave does for a whole lot le$$. Tell me if you need a 3D model. I have created a vast library.

Blender

I also reworked your .gif a bit. Open it up with your Ms GIF and see what changes were made. Might give you an idea or two.

Hey Dan,
After the frying pan comes the back-up rolling pin. Then they film "Die Hard 4" in your kitchen. linked-image

The changes you made include some that should have been obvious, but weren't, such as limiting the number of frames by increasing individual frame duration on key images.....and some that are purely artistic and cool, such as creating the machine gun flash by alternating lit and unlit frames. Smart and really effective. The only issue now is that the screen is too small to be able to read the text. Is there a simple way that I can minimally increase the screen size all at once, rather than frame by frame, without losing visual integrity? linked-image

Thanks for your encouragement and generosity. linked-image

BTW, I peeked at your website. The UFO is too cool.

Thanks donkeyrokman. Always a pleasure to help out around the AAW...(especially when there's interest and some appreciation)
QUOTE

I think anytime you increase the image size of small graphics one will 'perceive' a loss of clarity. I am not familiar with MsGif but if I was to hazard to guess on increasing the size of all frames at once I would look for a "select all" option and then from there...?

Keeping in mind all forum specs for avatars if used here at UM. I think you can still use offsite/hosted graphics for larger file sizes too...?

Hi there, flames are particularly difficult as each frame needs to be redrawn from scratch for it to work, if anyone has photoshop it can be done reasonably easily unfortunately my machine isn't powerful enough to handle a program that complicated and ends up crashing all the time.

On a seperate note, I'm off on hols for a week so catch you all when I get back next week, happy animating thumbsup.gif

I downloaded some freeware which made it easy to resize this gif, although I still had to go in and redo the frame with the sign bubble so that it was legible. This particular program appears to have a lot of image enhancing/retooling/conversion capabilities. The main reason I hunted it down was for it's ability to convert a png file to a gif. Here is a link to the download page.... http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
