Now about the Artist formerly known as "Madonna" w00t.gif blink.gif

Pop superstar Madonna has confirmed her allegiance to the Kabbalah has inspired her to change her name to Esther.

The "Like a Virgin" star - who was photographed last year wearing a necklace with an 'E' pendant - was eager to alter her name after devoting herself to the mystical offshoot of Judaism.

Although Madonna was originally named after her late mother Madonna Fortin Ciccone - who died of breast cancer in 1963 - she insists her identity change was sparked by her desire to experience renewed "energy" through another title, not because she wanted to disassociate herself from her dead mother.

She says, "I was named after my mother. My mother died when I was very young, of cancer, and I wanted to attach myself to another name."

"This is in no way a negation of who my mother is. I wanted to attach myself to the energy of a different name."

In the Old Testament of the Bible, Esther was a heroine queen who saved her fellow Jews from a mass killing. Esther's story is celebrated by Jewish people every year during the Purim Festival.

To each their own.....her name change impedes on no one as far as I'm concerned. She has made a career of reinventing herself, so this comes as no surprise.

All the power to her !!!!

I thought it was greek meaning 'godess'.

Even still, it's the stupidest thing ever. You can't be called something by everyone in the world for, what, 30 years? And then change it suddenly and expect it to be radical and give your dying career a boast.

How many identity crisis' is one person allowed to have? So far she's been an Italian Catholic, Tantric Sex-Fiend and Upper-Class Brit. Now she's a Jewish Mystic?
I think P. Diddy and the Artist formerly known as Prince would stand as lessons as to what can happen to Your career after a sudden name change..

Since we're talking about Madonna here we're talking extremely vain and egotistical. She hasn't put out a good album in jeez how long? She's just clinging dearly to whatever slip of relevance she still has.

Incidentally, Esther, to me, means "elderly denizen of retirement village."
