Hey thanks a lot. Yeah I was a little worried about that guy if I ever fond out who wa doing that I would get them busted for it! People like that should not be doing things like that to other people it's just wrong. True, very true, but most of these people are bullshiters. I would not be very worried at all, I get threats like that all the time yet I know that I know how to damage them more than these little noobs can, so I feel pretty safe. The people that actually do try and attack you have very badly written viruses. I willingly accepted one once and it was not even a fully complete virus. Shows you how much they know

But anyways, pickup a firewall like Sygate Personal (www.download.com), install it, and if he gives you a certain time of an attack, look at the built in graph in Sygate and it will tell you if you are being attacked. You can then do a whois on the IP (backtrace) and find out information on him, his ISP, state, city, ETC.

Fulltimekiller, Im not exactly sure how the password cracker works, but if you have your password automatically written in when you go to that site (saved) and your username, both of them are stored in a cookie which can be easily compromised. Also yes you will usually allow the chat program, but there are ways to get around it, just turn program control off and block most incoming traffic. Try and make sure all your common ports are closed and blocked (not visible with a port scan) and that you have some sort of backup plan if your firewall is compromised.

To get to BabyForesst's post, if he was a hardcore hacker he could have done whatever he wanted (if you have NO security what so ever) but would probably send some crappy trojan to freak you out. Unplugging the internet will stop the hacker from entering your computer during the time the internet is unplugged, no matter if they are the best hacker in the world (Saying you don't have a network connection directly to your computer). Unplugging though, won't stop an already infected computer from spreading the virus about, even to other computers (if you have a network). It will stop every single access attempt, all malicious software (Like trojans where the hackers computer is communicating with it) and pretty much everything else. If you are getting attacked and can't stop it, unplugging your internet is the thing to do.

I will leave off with telling you the majority of hackers in chatrooms (You were on AIM Im guessing ;-)) can't do anything at all, and if they do get something, it's premade and they don't know how to use it and probably damage themselves.

1:A trojan horse (trojan) is not a specific virus but rather a genre named after the greek legend because it can go in as another file and remain completely disguised, I could right now send someone a copy of Paint wich I had infected with subseven
(the most common and widely used trojan)and they would never know it, they could use the paint program as normal and the backdoor would be setup and melted into there system without there ever knowing, I could have a alert send to my email Mirc instant messenger icq or ftp server and start up my server editor and make there disk drive open and close, delete required system files reboot there computer, anything at my very whim I could even start up a dialogue with the individual if I wanted
Theres countless other trojans some much harder if impossible to detect if custom made by a certain person then norton may never detect it, norton is a VERY shitty anti virus program, because it is so easy to disable and so widely use.
