So... what was everyones favourite apartment haunting?
I liked the kitty in the fridge personally. It way it meowed and i was like 'sh**... dead cat in the fridge (cause it was just after finding the corpse in the old ladys fridge) and then i opened the fridge and it wriggled at me, so gross.

THe shadow in the closet. Very symbolic.

Yeah! I was a little pissed with that one though, i had NO health, came out of the Subway world 2nd time to get some health, and the damn shadow ghost KILLED me as i tried to get out of bed!

That signals the start of the ghosts invading your room. The air gets 'stuffy' and no longer heals you.

And that's when the game starts getting really good...

Yeah, it was alot better second half, but very short.

None of the games are that long. I like it that way. Doesnt drag on forever.

wow, what a thread, this is my first reply here surprisingly, my bro and i have played SH2 and recently SH3....i loved them....so much...i would be at school in class thinking about silent hill and how i cant wait to play it when i get home!! lol, im addicted...

BUT OH MY GOODNESS....

IVE JUST WATCHED THE SH4 TRAILER! ddaaaaammmnnn!!!!!!!!!!! looks ssssooooooooooooooooo disturbing and sooo different to the others!!! i still havnt seen the WHOLE trailer, just waiting for the last part right now to download....it looks soooooooooooooooooooo incredibly SCARY!! scary doesnt even describe it!!!!

Yeah Nordic, the TRAILER looked and sounded amazing. Really terrifying...



Then the game came out... and really, on a scale of one to 10 with SH3 being a 7, SH4 was a 2 on scariness and disturbingness.

Most of the scenes in the trailer weren't actually in the game, and all the sound effects are added they aren't in the game either.

It looks good, but it's sorely dissapointing. Still, play it. Rent it at least, try it out. You wont be scared i'll tell you that. It isn't scary in the least.

thaks for replying BS, about the scariness, a friend of my bro's doesnt get scared easily so therefore he said he didnt find 2 and 3 that scary but he said 4 actually DID SCARE him so therefore we figured its scarier? maybe?

Well, i guess it's all interpretation.

Personally, and i know i can speak for HereticDude666, jpalz, ChrisCo98 etc, we feel that humans aren't as scary as demons.

The whole basic story is that you are trapped in your apartment. Not scary. You find a hole in your wall and use it to go to different areas; A Subway, for starters. In the subway you fight dogs and humaniod ghosts. The ghosts are pitifully sad, not scary at all. Think Resident Evil zombies by the float instead of walk and have a very hard time grabbing you.

Alot of emphasis was put on fighting in this game with melee weapons. All the enemies are very easy to kill with nothing more than a stick or gold club. Theres a health bar and power bar which takes you out of the game itself. And the story is about a murderer killing people and trapping them as ghosts in this otherworld.

It's hard to explain why, but it just is not scary in the slightest bit. Maybe its the terrible 2D controls or lack of detail in the environments, maybe its the fact that they removed the flashlight, radio etc and replaced them with 3D lighting that basically lights up all the areas nicely for you so you can see everything coming. Maybe it's because it's so repetitive.

Either way, we all feel that compared to the other games which we had hard times playing at night, this game i played at night with the lights of and never onced jumped or was disturbed by anything.

Well dude, I didn't find the game scary, but rather disturbing. In the end I didn't know where it was safer!!!

Anyways, I still liked it, and the story is really good. I even think about the story, trying to find new symbols and all that...

I have to agree with that, the story IS exceptional.

idk, i kinda found SH4 a little scary. some of the things that jump out at you made me jump a few times. like when ur in the hospital and that giant cage comes crashing down over you. that scared the crap outta me. i think the first game is th scariest. i guess its just because of the older look to it. plus its creepy when the entire city enters "dark mode".

Yeah. It was totally creepy!!! I missed that in later games

The problem HD was that the scares in SH4 were not new.

Like the ceiling falling part that you said made you jump. Been done, in SH3 in the haunted house.

I guess i'm getting to used to SH4, and it didnt take enough of a change to scare me still.

not enough games scare me anymore. the only games that REALLY scare me anymore are the Fatal Frame games. scariest games ever!
